Constantino Financial State Quarterfinal Preview: Fillmore to face Schenevus/Charlotte Valley in Class D

One team is winning by over six runs per game in its last nine outings. The other hasn’t lost in 12 games.

Fillmore and Schenevus/Charlotte Valley will clash on Friday night in a battle of Section V vs. Section IV. A spot in the Class D state semifinals is on the line. Here’s the breakdown:

FILLMORE EAGLES (18-2/Allegany County I/No. 9 NYSSWA Class D)
vs.
SCHENEVUS/CHARLOTTE VALLEY DRAGONS (16-3/Tri-Valley League/No. 3 NYSSWA Class D)
Friday, Houghton College, 7:00 pm

How they arrived here: Fillmore won 10-0 vs. Friendship-Scio, 16-1 against Alfred-Almond, and 9-3 over Elba to reach the Section V Class D title game. There, the Eagles took down Arkport-Canaseraga 5-2.  In the sub-regionals, Fillmore took down Ellicottville 9-4. Schenevus/Charlotte Valley picked up wins against Cherry Valley-Springfield/Sharon Springs and Gilboa-Conesville/Roxbury to win the Section IV Class D championship. In the sub-regionals, it was a rematch against Gilboa-Conesville/Roxbury and the Dragons took it 6-4.

Scoring offense: Fillmore (9.6 RPG), Schenevus/Charlotte Valley (10.2 RPG)

Scoring defense: Fillmore (2.1 RPG), Schenevus/Charlotte Valley (3.4 RPG)

Trends: Fillmore is outscoring its opponents 82-23 in its past nine games, and have won 17 of their past 18 games. Schenevus/Charlotte Valley has won 12 straight games and has scored eight or more runs in eight of those games.

Players to watch for Fillmore: Jared Boon So. Players to watch for Schenevus/Charlotte Valley: Tim Green (.593 BA, 1.91 ERA), Saywer Bridger (.433 BA), Owen Green (.412 BA), Allen Osborne (.324 BA, 2.90 ERA), Levi Jordan (.318 BA), Brayden Poliseno (1.24 ERA)

Coaches: Kaiden Bowers (Fillmore), Jim Gaske (Schenevus/Charlotte Valley)

History 101: Fillmore is looking to reach the state semifinals for the second straight season. The Dragons are coming off their first sectional title as a combined team. Schenevus has won three other sectional titles, most recently in 2003.

What’s at stake: The winner advances to the NYS Class D semifinals to take on the winner of Oriskany (III) and Heuvelton (X) on Friday, June 12.
