Castle Packs Power Monday Softball Wrap: Crye powers Avon; Caledonia-Mumford’s Talty hits for the cycle

CLASS AA

PITTSFORD SUTHERLAND 6
PENFIELD 8

Claire Maley blasted a grand slam in the bottom of the fifth inning, giving Penfield enough insurance runs to clinch a spot in the NYS Class AA sub-regional. Maley finished 2-for-3 with four RBI and a run scored. In the sixth, Pittsford Sutherland responded with an RBI double from Mandy Meyers, followed by a two-run shot from Caralynn Orlando, making it 7-4. In the bottom half, Mackenzie Whitehead added a run-scoring single to make it 8-4 Patriots. Katie Sarr added a two-run home run for Sutherland in the bottom of the seventh. Zara Vattimo-Fetouh finished 2-4 with a run scored for the Patriots. Stephanie Coughlin, Ella Maley and Vivian Russo all added a hit and a run scored. Coughlin and Russo both drove in one. Allison Gardner finished 2-3 with an RBI and a run scored. For Pittsford Sutherland, Sarr led by going 3-4 with two RBI and a run scored. Meyers followed by going 2-3 with two RBI and a run scored. Orlando drove in a pair. Emma Huang singled and scored a run. Penfield will face Orchard Park (VI) on Wednesday.

CLASS B

AVON 6
WATERLOO 1

Jessie Crye went 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored, and hurled a 14-strikeout complete game to send Avon to the state tournament. Payton Rice trotted home three times and was 2-4. Charlie Pierce and Kyleigh DeRider both tacked on a hit and an RBI. For Waterloo, Ava Panek legged out an inside the park home run for the lone run. Brooklyn Hack was 2-3 to lead the hit column. Avon will face Alden (VI) in the NYS Class B sub-regional.

CLASS C

LETCHWORTH 6
CALEDONIA-MUMFORD 18 (5 innings)

Colleen Talty went 5-for-5, hitting for the cycle and driving in three runs to send Caledonia-Mumford to the NYS Class C sub-regional. Talty also trotted home three times. Mia Wilson went 3-3 with four runs scored and a pair of runs driven in. Kylie Padlick-Field blasted a two-run shot and reached in all five plate appearances. Audrey Padlick-Field was 3-4 with a pair of RBI. Grace Beach fanned three inside the circle, picking up the win. Beach also tallied three RBI at the dish. Shea Drazkowski scored twice and drove in a pair. Nora Walton scored twice. For Letchworth, Bri Buriel was 2-3 with a pair of doubles. Charity Scott, Lillian DeRock and Katrina Snyder all drove in runs. Caledonia-Mumford will face Falconer (VI) for a spot in the NYS Class C quarterfinals.

CLASS D

AVOCA-PRATTBURGH 1
OAKFIELD-ALABAMA 13

Chloe Lamb finished 3-for-4 including an RBI double in the the third inning when Oakfield-Alabama scored seven runs to take an 8-1 lead. Lamb had two doubles, a triple and two RBI in the win. Allison Harkness was 3-4 with three RBI. Tori Davis went 3-3 with a double and three RBI. Rylee Denny tripled as part of 2-3 effort with an RBI. Kaylee Merkel, Ysabella Schrauger and Emma Williams singled and drove in a run apiece. Chantelle Fluet added a base hit. Savannah Durham struck out nine over six innings without allowing an earned run. The sophomore let up three hits and one walk. Addalynn Stone reached on an error and scored the lone Avoca-Prattsburgh run in the first inning.

“Just a great hitting performance for our kids against a very good A-P team,” said Oakfield-Alabama head coach Jeff Schlagenhauf via email. “We had a huge third inning getting some timely hits and taking advantage of some AP miscues. We were solid defensively after the first inning. Savannah was solid again in the circle. Huge hits for Chantelle and Kaylee in the sixth with Kaylee’s being the walkoff. It was a great team win.”

Oakfield-Alabama will face Forestville (VI) in the Class D sub-regional.
