Constantino Sectional Final Softball Preview: Eastridge and Pittsford Sutherland meet in rematch for the Class AA2 championship

One squad is looking for its first title in 34 years while the other is aiming to complete the three-peat as sectional champions. Eastridge and Pittsford Sutherland are set for battle in the Class AA2 Section V championship in a rematch of the 2025 Class A final this Saturday, May 30. Here’s the breakdown:

No. 2 PITTSFORD SUTHERLAND KNIGHTS (19-3 / Monroe County Division IV)

How they arrived: Top-seeded Eastridge (NYSSWA Class AA No. 8) opened up postseason play with a 12-0 shutout over Brighton in the quarterfinals after earning a first round bye. The Lancers went on to defeat No. 4 Brockport 3-1 in the semifinals to clinch a spot in the sectional final. After receiving a first round bye, Pittsford Sutherland (NYSSWA Class AA No. 18) notched a 12-0 victory in the quarterfinals as well over No. 7 Churchville-Chili. In the semifinals, the Knights paced to a 13-1 victory over Pittsford Mendon to earn a spot in the championship.

Trends: Eastridge rolls into the final undefeated with its last loss coming in the Class A sectional final last year to Pittsford Sutherland 10-5. On the season, the Lancers have outscored its opponents 213-27 while driving in 10 or more runs on 12 different occasions. Eastridge has also pitched 10 shutouts while holding opponents to less than two runs 18 times this year and winning matchups by 10-plus runs 12 times. In games decided by one run, the Lancers are 3-0 including a 3-2 victory over Pittsford Sutherland on April 6, the only regular season matchup between the two teams. Pittsford Sutherland heads into the championship on a 15-game win streak, outscoring its opponents 187-43 in that stretch. During the win streak, the Knights scored 10 or more runs 11 times (15 on the season) while tossing four shutouts. Pittsford Sutherland has won by 10-plus runs on 10 different occasions and held opponents to three runs or less 12 times this year.

History 101: Eastridge is back in sectional final after falling to Pittsford Sutherland last year in the Class A championship 10-5. The Lancers last sectional title came in 1992 and are aiming for their first since then. Sutherland finds themselves in the championship for the third straight year after a victory over Eastridge last year and a 2-1 win against Honeoye Falls-Lima in 2024. The Knights are looking for their fourth title in the last six years and sixth since 2017.

What’s at stake: A spot in the Class AA Regional Qualifier against the champions of Class AA1, Penfield or Hilton.
