Constantino Financial Wednesday Baseball Wrap: Sutherland rallies to clinch spot in A final; Marvin hurls 2-hitter in Arkport-Canaseraga win

CLASS A 

NO. 7 PALMYRA-MACEDON (13-8) 0
NO. 6 HONEOYE FALLS-LIMA (11-10) 4

Owen Kearney pitched six innings of two-hit ball and fanned 16 batters while stealing a base and scoring a run to lead Honeoye Falls-Lima into the Class A final. Jacob Weber had two RBI singles to help put the Cougars in front. Ollie Osterling led HF-L going 3-for-3 and scored a run. Marshall Adams had an RBI double in the sixth inning to put the Cougars up 4-0. Weber also got the save pitching the seventh inning and allowed no hits. Camron Quick and Trey Porpora each had one hit for Palmyra-Macedon. Honeoye Falls-Lima will face the No. 1 seed, Pittsford Sutherland on Saturday, May 30. 

NO. 5 GENEVA (14-5) 4
NO. 1 PITTSFORD SUTHERLAND (16-5) 5

Maddox Johnson scored the game-winning run on a sacrifice fly by Aiden Kress to cap off a four-run sixth inning for Pittsford Sutherland. Max Kress hit an RBI double in the second inning to score the first run of the game and give Sutherland an early 1-0 lead. Kress later scored on a balk in the sixth inning to help the comeback win. Iwan Taylor-Casamayor led the Knights with two runs scored, starting the four-run sixth inning by also coming home on an error. Ryan Munzinger went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a walk. Pete Muzinger had an RBI and a run both coming from errors in the sixth inning. Geneva scored all four of its runs in the fourth inning. Alexander Dorrington led the team with three hits and two RBI, including a two-run triple to give Geneva a 3-1 lead. Dorrington would then score on a wild pitch. Samuel Schading went 1-2 and scored on a wild pitch. Pittsford Sutherland will face off with the No. 6 Honeoye Falls-Lima in the sectional final. 

CLASS B1 

NO. 10 AQUINAS (3-15) 5
NO. 3 WAYLAND-COHOCTON (12-7) 7

Quinn Dixon had three hits and drove in two runs, including an RBI single that broke a two-all tie in the third inning. Ethan Loop went 2-for-2 and hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning to put Wayland-Cohocton up 7-3. Loop also stole two bases and scored in the third inning on a single by Ethan Bauer. Bauer finished going 3-4 and with one RBI and crossed the plate twice. Orion Walker had an RBI double in the sixth inning while pitching three innings of relief and striking out four. Alexander Fedorchuk had three hits and scored once. For Aquinas, Ryan Lewin put the team up early with a solo home run in the first inning. Jameson Hummel led the Li’l Irish going 2-3. Jackson Hobbs also had an RBI for Aquinas in the second inning. Wayland-Cohocton will face top-seeded Haverling in the Class B1 championship game on Saturday, May 27. 

NO. 5 HORNELL (8-9) 0
NO. 1 HAVERLING (18-3) 3

Gage Thomas threw a complete game shutout only allowing four hits and struck out nine while driving in one run and scoring twice to lead Haverling to the championship game. Thomas scored the first run of the game on a passed ball in the fourth inning. Dylan Wenban went 1-for-3 and scored on a double by Thomas. Dayton Orlowske drove in the final run in the sixth inning on a single and finished 1-3 in the game. Tyrone Bauchman led Hornell going 2-2. Haverling will face No. 3 Wayland-Cohocton in the B1 championship on Saturday, May 27.

CLASS B2 

NO. 4 EAST ROCHESTER (11-5) 10
NO. 1 SODUS (15-3) 9

Andrew Newman went 4-for-4 and drove in the game-tying run in the seventh inning on a single to make it a seven-all game. Newman later scored in that inning on a single by Donelle Saxton to make it 10-7. Saxton led the Bombers with four RBI and went 2-4 at the plate while giving East Rochester a lead in the first inning on a two-run single to make it 4-0. Liam DeHollander went 1-3, scored twice, and drove in two runs. DeHollander and Newman each had a stolen base. Newman also pitched two and two thirds inning striking out six batters. Mason Loria went 1-3 and scored two runs. Noah Wollschleger went 1-3 and scored two runs while pitching the last four and a third innings and fanned four. Carter Salerno led Sodus in hits going 3-5, driving in a run, and scoring a run. Wade DeRue led the team in RBI with two and went 2-4. East Rochester will face the No. 2 Wellsville in the championship game on Saturday, May 30.  

NO. 6 BOLIVAR-RICHBURG/CUBA-RUSHFORD (11-8) 1
NO. 2 WELLSVILLE (12-7) 11

Drew Cowburn, Trenton Green, and Matthew Ritter hurled a combined one-hitter while Cowburn led the group in strikeouts with seven. Karter Grover drove in four runs on two hits and gave Wellsville an early 1-0 lead in the first inning. Andrew Ordiway went 3-for-4 and had two doubles and a single.Benjamin Helveston wet 3-4 and drove in two runs. Ritter had an RBI single in the fourth inning. Brayden Geffers had one hit, scored once, and drove in one run. Green crossed the plate three times, took three walks, and had an RBI. Connor Margeson drove in the lone run for Bolivar-Richburg/Cuba-Rushford on a single in the fourth inning. Wellsville advances to play the No. 4 Sodus in the B2 final. 

“BR/CR is a young team and what a great story, coming together to field a team and as the six-seed making a great run. They are used to winning there and that was a big concern coming in the game,” said Wellsville coach John Anderson. “Our seniors stepped up and the freshmen and sophomores came in clutch. Hitting is contagious. We had a plan for pitching and pitch counts and everyone exceeded expectations on the mound. It was a nice team win and a great crowd from each community.”

CLASS D 

NO. 3 ELBA (12-6) 3
NO. 2 FILLMORE (12-3) 9

Isaac Wilcox pitched four one-hit innings while also taking a walk and scoring a run. James Hillman went 2-for-3, drove in two runs, and scored twice. Hillman also sparked a six-run fourth inning with a single to score Jared Boon. Boon started the game off with an RBI double to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead in the first. Blake Washburn had two RBI on one hit and crossed the plate once. Malcom Nusbickel went 1-3 and scored once.  Nusbickel also pitched two innings and struck out three. Fletcher Norton led Elba with two RBI on one hit. Gavin Hall went 2-3 while Bing Zuber scored twice. Fillmore will play the top seeded Arkport-Canaseraga in the sectional championship on Saturday, May 30. 

NO. 5 KESHEQUA (10-8) 1
NO. 1 ARKPORT-CANASERAGA (16-2) 2

Micah Marvin pitched a complete game two-hitter and struck out 14 batters while also driving in one run on a sacrifice fly and took a walk. Caden Carey went 3-for-3 and scored the winning run in the sixth inning on a wild pitch. Conor Smith walked once, scored once, was hit by a pitch, and stole two bases. Nolan Morey went 1-3 and stole three bases. Drew Glover finished going 1-3. Nathan Hillier drove in the lone run for Keshequa and also had a hit. Aiden Howe had the other hit for Keshequa. Arkport-Canaseraga will play the No. 2 Fillmore in the sectional final.
