Jack Leasure Shooting and Skills Camp regional qualifier preview: Webster Schroeder and Canandaigua to battle for spot in state quarterfinal

Three years ago, the girls’ basketball teams of Canandaigua and Webster Schroeder both qualified for the state tournament in separate classifications. On Tuesday evening, the pair will meet to decide who represents Section V in Class AA this season. Here’s the breakdown:

How they arrived here: Webster Schroeder defeated Irondequoit (56-33), Hilton (56-42) and Penfield (58-51) to reach Tuesday’s qualifier. Canandaigua beat Brockport (52-21), Pittsford Mendon (43-42) and Pittsford Sutherland (43-34) on the way to Tuesday’s matchup.

History 101: Both Canandaigua (Class A) and Webster Schroeder (AA) advanced to the state tournament in 2023. Canandaigua reached the NYSPHSAA Class A final before falling to Walter Panas of Section I. CA also advanced to the state semifinals in 2009 and 2002. Schroeder defeated White Plains of Section I in the 2023 NYS Class AA championship game. The Warriors are looking to make their second state tournament appearance in program history.

Tip-off: A 6:00 p.m. start time is scheduled at Rush-Henrietta High School.
