ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Brailon Johnson sparked a late run, and Eastridge boys’ basketball went on to defeat host Wilson Magnet, 64-55 in non-league action, Wednesday night.

Coming out of a timeout with a five-point advantage and less than six minutes left in the game, Johnson scored on back-to-back possessions and the Lancers (7-12) did not allow Wilson within seven points for the remainder of the contest.

“That’s what Brailon can do,” said Eastridge head coach Dan Roser. “He’s someone we can count on to get us a basket when we need one.”

Leading 50-45, Johnson sliced through the lane off the dribble and finished with a layup. Next time down the floor, the junior guard got in the lane again for another basket.

Johnson’s buckets, his only two of the game, were part of a 20-11 run to close out the win.

“That was a big lift for us,” Roser said. “We needed that win.”

Xzavier Hughey scored seven of his game-high 20 points in the first quarter as Eastridge built an 18-6 lead.

Wilson (7-13) responded in the second quarter. Jayden Ingram scored seven. Jesse Lynn added six including five straight to pull the Wildcats within one at 23-22.

Eastridge took a 29-27 edge heading into halftime.

Lynn finished a bucket in the lane and then set up teammate Trayshawn Williams for two more to tie the game at 44 with less than three minutes remaining in the third quarter.

Eastridge, though, never trailed.

“We did a lot of things right to finish off the game,” Roser said. “There’s still work for us to do and things we have to improve on before sectionals. Winning a game like this can help our confidence.”

Myron Stamps had 16 points in the win. Tevin Haymon added 14 for the Lancers.

Lynn led Wilson, playing its final game of the regular season, with 19. Ingram had 13.

Eastridge hosts Greece Athena in its regular season finale next Wednesday (2/18). A 5:45 p.m. tipoff is scheduled.
