Tuesday Girls’ Basketball Wrap: Eastridge’s Cowart joins 1,000-point club; Balanced Canisteo-Greenwood cruises past Jamestown

Penfield’s Olivia Lanning and Jordan Rasmussen each tallied 14 points to lead all scorers as the Patriots won by double-digits for the seventh time this season. Rasmussen also contributed with seven assists, five rebounds and five steals. Senior Reegan Sercu scored 11 and junior Bella Cohoon finished with eight points for the Patriots. Juliana Bates scored nine and Bianca White finished with eight points for Athena/Odyssey.

Alyssa Cowart poured in 31 points including the 1,000th point of her career, and Eastridge won for the second time in three games. The junior guard also collected five rebounds, eight steals and a block. Lilli Crittenden had eight points and five rebounds in the win. Tierra-Nicole Green added six points, four rebounds and two steals. Kenya Scott accounted for six points, 14 rebounds and three blocks.  Qa’Mariona Greene (4), Scarlett Kremer (4) and Gabriella Rawlins (2) also scored for the Lancers. London Thomas led Irondequoit with 24 points. Taylor Morse added 12.  Lucy Whipple (6), Anna Dean (5), Elena Lamannia (3)and Ellie Boltiglier (2) also scored for the Eagles.

Sophia Frayne scored 10 of her game-high 18 points in the first quarter as Canandaigua jumped out to an 18-6 lead on the way to a third straight win. Frayne connected five times from the floor in the opening eight minutes. Gianna Buchiere added 17 points in the win. Leah Sheridan had 15. Maddie Smith and Avery Sobey both hit their first career varsity 3-pointers. Kadyn Chapman (8), Lola Schorr (5) and Lauryn Campbell (2) rounded out the scoring for the Gray Wolves. Evelyn Amesbury led Gates Chili with 12 points. Allison Amesbury (5), Makenna Clark (3), Payton Kretser (4), Hayden Byer (4), Mia Torres (2), Cassie Carpenter (1) and Taisiia Rozhevenko (2) also scored for the Spartans.

Ninth-grader Ally Starwald finished with a game-high 14 points to lead Hilton which took a 34-18 lead into halftime. Amiyah Miles accounted for 12, five rebounds and three assists in the win. Paige Dean had 11 points. Taylor Anne (8), Maddie Murphy (6), Ava Heise (5), Jayleigh Esposito (3), Amelia Sloan (2), Sam Korzenieski (2) rounded out the scoring for the Cadets. Jenelle Staples led Arcadia/Olympia with nine points. Giavanna Williams (7), Holly Defrees (6), Lillian Walker (3), Ja’Nyah Reaves (2), Samara Quintana (2), Vivian Koffa (2) and Kanii Betts (2) also scored for the Lightning.

Victor’s Allie Pisano led all scorers with 15 points as the Blue Devils won for the third straight time. Kelly Wightman added 13 points in the win. Jorga Gray led Spencerport with 11.

Shaye Angelo finished with 31 points, eight rebounds and seven steals to lead HF-L to a second win in three games. Kam Burdette added 12 points on four 3-pointers. Burdette also had eight rebounds and blocked four shots. Alysa Richards added 11 points and five assists while Sarah Smith posted a double-double of 10 points 12 rebounds to go with two blocked shots. Lydia Childs led Brockport with 29 points. Olivia Keels had 12 points.

Junior Clara Shannon led all scorers with a career-high 18 points including a pair of 3-pointers. Sophomores Eva Monoski and Samara Rizzo contributed 14 and 13 points respectively. Monoski connected four times from behind the arc. The Red Raiders connected on 9-of-11 attempts from distance in the first half and took a 40-16 lead into the break. Autumn Fitch connected twice from beyond the arc and finished with six points. Charly Sisson (2), Ava Vassalo (5), Avery Lucey (3), Leah Meabon (4), Lara Carter (2), Josie Roets (3) and Sheniyah Ross (2) also scored for Fairport. Kyla Peidici led Rush-Henrietta with 13 points.

Sophia Snyder led the Wildcats, who won their third straight, with 19 points. Aliysiah Clark added 14 in the win. Annabelle Weston (2), Brooke Berna (5), Whitney Cotronas (4) and Evy Royston rounded out the scoring for Marcus Whitman. HAC’s Cadence Brecker led all scorers with 18 points. Baylor Smith had 11. Riley White (7), Gabby Giambra (3) and Lanae Vargas (2) also scored for the Wolves.

Taylor Record and Kate Cronin contributed four points apiece in the third quarter when Clyde-Savannah used a 16-10 advantage to take a double-digit lead into the final minutes of action. Bella Smart and Larissa Walters both scored 12 points to lead the Golden Eagles. Cronin and Record each scored eight. Sophia Mamott (2), Alexis Tohafjian (5) and Taylor Carnevale (4) also contributed for Clyde-Savannah which won its third straight game. Gananda’s Avery Hoffmann finished with a game-high 22 points. Leah Buffan scored 14. Raegan Quigley (5) and Jordyn Brice (2) also scored for the Blue Panthers.

Bailey Formanek scored 12 points, and Emily Nevlever added 10 to lead North Rose-Wolcott. Cat Ohler (8), Sydney Rhodes (5), Larysaa Moore (4) and Delaynee Terrian-Pettinato (5) rounded out the scoring for the Cougars. Genevieve VanDerBroek (7), Mercedes Thomas (6) and Malia Cromartie (5) contributed to the Sodus offense.

Kara Mahoney led six in double figures with 16 points, and Canisteo-Greenwood jumped out to a 23-8 lead in the first quarter on the way to a third straight win. Makenna Mullen connected on a pair of 3-pointers and scored nine of her 11 points during the opening eight minutes. Paris May and Payton Bentley scored 10 apiece in the win. Bentley finished with eight rebounds and four blocks. Ninth-grader Gracen Mahaney posted a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds. Anna Mitchell had 12 points of her own. Bailey Mullen and Lyla Greenfield rounded out the scoring with two points each. Payton Gibbs led Jamestown with 15 points. Anna Engquist had seven.

Mia Nasca connected on eight 3-pointers as part of a 26-point effort, and Hornell won its fifth straight game. Selena Maldonado and Raegan Evingham added 11 apiece in the win. Jordyn Dyring (9), Teegan Eveland (8) and A’Jonay Hawkins (4) also scored for the Red Raiders who have now won five games by double digit. The matchup was hosted at Alfred University. Taylor Hamsher paced Dansville with 12 points, two rebounds, two assists and a steal. Morgan Ball (6), Colleen Metcalfe (5), Jaylynn Bridge (5), Samantha O’Connor (4), Kassidy Cole (4) and Allison O’Connor (2) also scored for the Mustangs. The game was played at Alfred University.

“We knew coming into tonight that this was a matchup between two of the top teams not only in our section, but in the state, so it was important for us to bring the right energy and play our brand of basketball,” Hornell head coach Jim Dagon said via email. :I thought the girls were locked in from the start, rebounded the ball extremely well, and stayed committed to playing team-first, unselfish basketball.”
