Saturday Girls’ Basketball Wrap: Canandaigua takes Scott Zahn Classic; Finney rolls to 6 and O

Gianna Buchiere and Leah Sheridan combined to score 12 points in the third quarter when Canandaigua pulled away from a one-point game and went on to win a second straight matchup in the Scott Zahn Classic. Leading 24-23, Buchiere connected twice from the floor and converted on 3-of-3 attempts from the free throw line for seven of her 15 points. Sheridan found the range once from behind the 3-point arc and hit another field in the third when the Gray Wolves used a 14-8 advantage to take a seven-point lead into the final eight minutes of action. Sophia Frayne accounted for six of her team-high 16 points in the fourth quarter. Lola Schorr (3) and Lexi Eldred (1) also scored for Canandaigua. Grace Janczak led Victor with 14 points. Allie Pisano scored six. Madison Lennon (5), Kelly Wightman (4), Vanessa Chumacero (4), Addison Hopkins (2), and Sarah Stear (2) rounded out the scoring for the Blue Devils.

Lucy Broome led three in double figures with 17 points, and Finney won by double digits for the fifth time this season. Broome connected seven times from the floor and converted 3-of-6 from the free throw line. The ninth grader finished with 10 steals for a double-double to go with six rebounds and three assists. Broome accounted for seven points in the third quarter when Finney used a 20-0 advantage tao take a 22-point lead into the final eight minutes of action. Kiley Knittle hit four 3-pointers and added 14 points in the win. Knittle also had five assists and five rebounds. Lainey Vargas scored 11 and grabbed five boards. Sydney Davis finished with 10 rebounds, five points and five steals. Kate Frederickson (3) and Saleh Danesi (2) also scored for the Falcons. Leah Burrows led Genesee Valley-Belfast with 10 points. Bailey Tallman had eight. Emma Callan (8) and Addison Ely (2) also scored.

LETCHWORTH (6-0) 62
ALBION (VI) 16

Charity Scott scored all 14 of her points in the first half when Letchworth jumped out to 36-9 lead and cruised to its fifth double-digit win of the season. Scott finished with six steals in the win. Annika Milillo added 13 points while  Gillian Kemp posted a double double with 12 points and 11rebounds. Kendall Jines (9), Harper Bliss (6), Sasha Bellamy (4), Lilly DeRock (2) and McKenna Krist (2) also scored for Letchworth. Aaliyah Jones (7) and Jocelyn Friedl (4) led Albion.
