CALEDONIA, N.Y. — Mia Gray scored two goals including one during a 23-second span midway through the second-half when No. 2 Byron-Bergen (16-2-0) found the back of the net twice on the way to a 3-0 win over No. 3 Bloomfield (15-2-1).
With the win, the Bees advance to face top-seeded Kendall in the Section V Class C2 championship game.
“It never gets old,” said Byron-Bergen head coach Wayne Hill whose squad advanced to the finals for a sixth straight year. “Three-nothing, I’ll take it. It’s a semifinal win. You win. That’s the only thing that matters.”
After combining on a first-half score, Gray and teammate Grace DiQuattro went to work again in the second on a corner kick from the left flag. Gray redirected DiQuattro’s service from just outside the 6-yard box to double the advantage with 15:30 remaining in the match.

DiQuattro put the game out of reach 23 seconds later.
“In front of goal, those two are really something,” Hill said. “Grace is good on those corner kicks. We all know it. She’s been doing it for us for three or four years. Mia is able to find a little half a space and get into to make something happen, but she’s not the only one. We had some corner kicks last game that were looking really good, and we almost scored off them. The whole team is hungry.”
Riley Shallenberger assisted on DiQuattro’s goal.
The win was the 11th straight for the Bees who have allowed two goals in their past seven games. This for a group which has had to absorb the graduations of former starting keeper Natalie Prinzi and center back Ava Gray. Both Prinzi and Gray were part of four sectional championships and last year’s state title run.
On Tuesday, Rylee Burch registered B-B’s 11th shutout of the season.
The Bees backline of Lucy Rea, Megan Jarkiewicz, Ava Goff and Emma Mathews did their part limiting Bloomfield to three shots on goal for the night and just one over the final 40 minutes of play.
“No real shots of danger,” Hill said of his defense’s efforts. “Rylee was able to see them all, so that means the defense did their job stopping high enough up the pitch where she could see a longer ball coming in. We did give up a little breakaway problem in the first half, but our coverage was great. We rotated really well on the ball, and they got in position. The shutout is important. The communication was great.”
Byron-Bergen defeated Kendall, 1-0 in last year’s C2 final. The Eagles took a 2-1 decision when the Genesee Region foes met during the regular season.
“Kendall is a fantastic team,” Hill said. “They beat us this year. Hats off to them. They played a great game. They deserved the win. I’d love to be able to return the favor. We’ll see on Friday night. They’ll be prepared. We’ll be prepared. Hopefully, it’s a good game for everybody.”
