CALEDONIA, N.Y. — Braelyn Isaman netted the equalizer and then set up the game-winning goal as Keshequa girls’ soccer used a late rally to defeat host Caledonia-Mumford, 2-1 in Livingston County Athletic Association (LCAA) action on Monday.
Trailing 1-nil, Isaman converted off a set piece with 13:48 left in the game.
“There were so many times I thought it was going in, and it just didn’t work out,” the junior forward said. “I kept saying to the team ‘we’re going to get one. It’s going to happen.’ Once it finally did, it felt really good.”
Isaman ran on to a free kick from teammate Riley Nageldinger and finished with a header just outside the 6-yard box for her team-leading 18th goal of the season.

Less than seven minutes later, she led Quinn Powers into the 18-yard box for the game-winning goal.
“Once I got the ball, I knew there was a whole bunch of defenders around me,” she said. “Quinn was to my left. I saw her make that run, and I knew I could make that pass.”

The win was the third straight for the Wildcats (10-1-0) who clinched the LCAA Division III title.
“We just kept battling,” said first-year head coach Todd Isaman (father). “That shows the sign of a great team. Things didn’t go the way we wanted it to in the first half. We knew we weren’t playing like we wanted to. You’re down, but okay, what are you going to do to make it happen.”

It was the second time in two weeks that Keshequa used a second-half rally to beat Cal-Mum. Deadlocked in a scoreless game at halftime in the earlier meeting, Isaman and Onnalee Long both found the back of the net over the final 20 minutes for a 2- nil win.
On Monday, Cal-Mum’s Cachê Brockenshire stood in the way of Keshequa. The senior keeper made eight saves including three early in the second half to thwart the Wildcats.
Then Nageldinger sent a free kick from 30 yards out that caromed off the cross bar.
“Everyone was getting pretty frustrated,” Nageldinger said. “Nothing was working how we wanted it to.”
Less than 15 minutes after her shot was turned away by the keeper’s best friend, she lined up another set piece from just over midfield.
“I knew Braelyn was going to go in, put her body on the line and finish it,” Nageldinger said. “To have something going in, it really hyped us up and helped us come back.”
Keshequa had five corner-kick opportunities before Isaman and Nageldinger converted on the set piece.
“Set pieces like corners are going to win games especially down the stretch here,” said Todd Isaman. “It was great for us to be on the positive side of that.”
Breyanna Bishop staked Cal-Mum to a lead with her 11th goal of the season. The program’s all-time scoring leader has 107 goals.
