ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Jenna Christensen’s goal in the 49th minute proved to be the difference as host Greece Olympia defeated Brockport, 1-0 in Section V Girls’ Soccer action, Wednesday night.

It was the sophomore forward’s team-leading ninth goal of the season.

“She’s our GOAT,” said teammate Kyleigh Bathe. “We love her. We all are on her all the time to keep working hard. For her to score it’s amazing.”

The play started with Haley Falco winning a ball at midfield and feeding Isabelle Sce who found Christensen along the flank. Christensen cut the ball back through a pair of defenders before going near post for the eventual game winner.

“Very good composure,” Luisi said of Christensen’s effort on the goal. “Obviously, a big goal for us. It was the team working hard to get that ball to Jenna.”

Coming off a tie at home in its most recent outing, Olympia stayed unbeaten in its past four games and improved its record to 3 wins, 1 loss and 1 tie.

“It was a big win for us, especially at home,” said Luisi. “It was a relief to get that home win against Brockport. They’re a good team. We didn’t play our best first half. We made some adjustments at halftime. It worked a little bit.”

Brockport (4-2-0) came into the game winners of three straight. Averaging nearly three goals per game in their four wins, the Blue Devils had not been shut out prior to Wednesday.

With a backline including eighth-grade twin sisters Ava and Mya Burnham along with Leah Gray and Bathe, Olympia’s defense limited Brockport to three shots on goal for the game and held the Blue Devils without a corner kick.

“The girls did a phenomenal job,” Luisi said. “Our defense played lights out tonight to get that shutout.”

Bathe, a fifth-year player on varsity, anchors the Olympia defense which posted its third shutout of the season.

“She’s a huge leader on our team,” Luisi said. “Having Kyleigh back there leading the defense keeps everything together.”

Olympia’s defense was at its best midway through the second half when Brockport worked for a free kick from 20 yards out and then followed that set piece with a buildup that elicited one of the Blue Devils three shots.

The Spartans were able to get clearings in both situations.

“We all work together,” Bathe said. “We have good team chemistry and never give up on plays.”

Olympia travels to play at Honeoye Falls-Lima on Friday.

Brockport hosts Eastridge on Saturday morning.
