Saturday Football Wrap: McEntire and Letchworth/Warsaw/Perry finish strong; Cunningham and Monroe cruise to opening win

Jeffery Logan III rushed for 305 yards and five touchdowns on 20 carries to lead Aquinas. The senior running back scored four times in the first half when the Li’l Irish jumped out to a 33-0 lead. Robert Carter accounted for 57 yards and one score on three carries. C.J. Flaherty led the defense with seven tackles including two for a loss and one interception. Amere Brewer had four tackles and two pass break-ups. Frankie Burgess accounted for five tackles and one blocked kick.

Terrell “Pooty” Cunningham completed 13-of-15 passes for 287 and six touchdowns while running for another score to lead Monroe. Cunningham connected twice for scores with teammate Messiah Hampton who finished with five receptions for 131 yards. Ray Garcia had three catches for 55 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Brien Walker added a touchdown. Anthony Omebe scored once, and on the defensive side accounted for seven tackles, three sacks and two forced fumbles. Jermaine Montgomery led the defense with 12 tackles, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery that he returned for a 12-yard touchdown. Ziere McKnight returned a fumble 27 yards for a touchdown to go with seven tackles and two sacks.

LETCHWORTH/WARSAW/PERRY (1-0) 15
NOTRE DAME-BATAVIA/BYRON-BERGEN (0-1) 0

Jake McEntire finished with 107 yards and two touchdowns to lead Letchworth/Warsaw/Perry. McEntire broke a scoreless tie with a one-yard touchdown in the third quarter, and Letchworth/Warsaw/Perry rattled off 15 unanswered points. McEntire later found the end zone on a four-yard rush and connected with Brayden Merritt for a two-point conversion. Facing a first and goal from its own two-yard line, the L/W/P defense stopped Notre Dame-Batavia/Byron-Bergen to hold the lead. Merritt led the defense with seven tackles and a fumble recovery. McEntire had five tackles. Mason Sundt finished with two sacks, and Brayden Schroeder had a fumble recovery. Logan Gath rushed for 48 yards on nine carries. Maddox Kelly threw for 47 yards.

MARCUS WHITMAN/BLOOMFIELD (1-0) 34

After forcing a turnover on downs at midfield to open the game, the Marcus Whitman/Bloomfield offense took over and immediately found success, leading up to senior back Gunner Vogel taking a handoff 21 yards for a touchdown. The Wildcat defense followed it up by forcing a fumble and setting the offense on the two-yard line, which led to an Adien Kelley touchdown carry. READ MORE.

RED JACKET (1-0) 28

Aldric Smith-Fee rushed for 225 yards and three touchdowns as Red Jacket scored on its first possession and did not surrender the lead. Smith-Fee found the end zone on runs of 13, 5 and 15 yards to pace the Cardinals’ offense. Jacob Brown also scored on a one-yard rush. Edward Poinam topped the defense with six tackles. Jason Hutson added five tackles while Barrett Wetherbee had four.

CARDINAL O’HARA (Monsignor Martin) 33

Holley’s Kevin Robinson rushed for 82 yards on 18 carries and finished with six tackles on the defensive side. Grant Smith and Brayden Read both had four tackles. Read also had a pass deflection.
