Greece Post 468 falls in Legion Series opener

Tyler Cannon drove in two with a double in the third inning, but Greece Post 468 was not able to overcome an early deficit losing 9-2 to Chesapeake Post 280 in the 2025 American Legion World Series opener, Friday from Keeter Stadium at Veteran’s Field in Shelby, North Carolina.

Cannon plated Derrick Allen and Mason Davey with the two-out hit to pull Greece within five at 7-2.

Greece left a runner on base in each of the fourth of the fifth innings.

Allen and Davey both finished 2-for-4 on the day.

Wesley Sturrup added a single for the Greece which totaled six hit on the days.

Nolan Bonnell allowed three runs on six hits over five innings of relief work. The right-hander struck out three and walked three.

Chesapeake Post (24-3) sent 14 to the plate and scored six runs in the first inning. George Chevalier highlighted the outburst with a two-run double.

Greece Post (24-7) will continue pool play with a 10 a.m. first pitch on Saturday against Bossier City Post 202 (La.).

Greece is the first District 7 (Rochester area) team to reach the World Series in the 100-year history of American Legion baseball and the first team from New York state since Rockland County in 2002.

Friday’s game, originally scheduled for Thursday was postponed one day due to rain.
