Nate Powers struck out eight and hurled a two-hitter as Greece Post 468 (21-5) opened the 2025 American Legion Northeast Regional tournament with a 5-1 victory over Cumberland Post 14 (Rhode Island), Wednesday morning from Fitton Field on the College of Holy Cross campus in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts.
After issuing a one-out walk in the second that led to his only run allowed of the night, Powers retired seven straight and 10 of 11 batters. He walked three in the game.
Nate Brinza finished with three RBI including a two-run single in the first to give Greece all the runs it needed.
Brinza plated Tyler Cannon and Mason Davey with the two-out base hit.

Cannon, who went 3-for-3 in the game, connected on a single after Cumberland starter, Vincent Pontarelli, retired the first two batters of the inning. Davey reached on a hit by pitch. After a double steal, Brinza delivered for a 2-0 lead.
Derrick Allen walked and eventually came home on a Brinza sacrifice fly in the third.
Allen scored Colden Forney from first with a two-out double in the fourth.
Cannon doubled and came around to score in the fifth.
Ben Jahnz singled and drove in the lone run for Cumberland.
Greece Post will play Bedford Post 54 (New Hampshire) on Thursday in the next round of the double-elimination tournament. A 4:30 p.m. first pitch is scheduled. Fans can follow the action here.
Greece is making its third regional appearance in four years.
