American Legion Sunday Wrap: Nick has a day for Cottreal-Warner; Ely Fagan’s Gross throws no-hitter

GAME 1
COTTREAL-WARNER POST (1-0) 9
RAYSON MILLER POST (0-1) 6

Sam Nick went 3-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored while Owen Andreatta finished 2-4 with two RBI and two runs to lead Cottreal-Warner Post. During a four-run sixth inning, Andreatta doubled, scoring two runs while Nick added an RBI-single to give Cottreal-Warner a 7-0 lead. Alex Grejda collected two hits, two runs and an RBI while Drew Gropp added two hits, an RBI and crossed home plate once. Dylan Dumont recorded two hits and a run while Nick Rene scored a run and drove in a run. Matt Swann also crossed home plate. Dumont hurled five scoreless innings of one-hit ball with four strikeouts and four walks to notch the win while Grejda struck out two through one scoreless inning of relief to pick up the save. Jimmy Cook led the way with two hits and a run while Grady Hopkin hit a three-run triple and crossed home plate during a six-run sixth inning for Rayson Miller Post. Jack Edelstein and Josh Pearson added a hit, a run and an RBI apiece while Paul Byrne and Joe Guisto scored a run apiece.

GAME 2
RAYSON MILLER POST (0-2) 5
COTTREAL-WARNER POST (2-0) 6

Tied 5-5 in the bottom of the seventh, Sam Nick walked it off with a triple that drove Max Caron home for the game-winning run to lift Cottreal-Warner Post. Nick also hit an RBI-double that plated Alex Grejda in the third inning to cut the lead two. Nick Rene went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs including an RBI-single to score Garrett McNeil and tie the game at five apiece. Grejda ended with two hits and hurled five scoreless innings of three-hit ball with three strikeouts and three walks to earn the win on the mound. Pete Hoffman added one hit and Chase Sackett crossed home plate once. Down 5-1 in the bottom of the third, Cottreal-Warner scored five unanswered to complete the comeback. For Rayson Miller Post, Max Vorrasi led the way with two hits and three RBI including a two-run single in the second inning to take a 5-1 lead. CJ Wheaton collected two hits while Jack Edelstein recorded a hit, an RBI and a run. Grady Hopkin singled and crossed home plate twice while Josh Pearson hit an RBI-single. Paul Byrne and Joe Guisto added a run apiece.

GAME 1
IRONDEQUOIT POST (0-1) 1
GREECE POST (1-0) 11

Nathan Brinza went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored including an RBI-single to ignite a seven-run second inning. Dylan Savage finished 2-3 with three RBI including a two-run double in the fourth inning to take a 10-1 lead and pace Greece Post. Derrick Allen collected two hits, a run and two RBI including a two-run single during the seven-run second while Tyler Cannon recorded two hits, two runs and an RBI. Mason Davey singled, scoring two runs and crossed home plate three times while Tre Walker added a hit, a run and an RBI. Jack Kelly recorded a hit and a run while Wes Sturrup scored a run as well. Allen struck out three while allowing one run on four hits through four innings to earn the win on the mound. For Irondequoit Post, Max Spitz led the way with two hits and a run while Aaden Bishop followed with two hits. Porter Herman also tallied a hit.

GAME 2
GREECE POST (2-0) 9
IRONDEQUOIT POST (0-2) 8

Tre Walker finished with three hits, three runs and an RBI while Tyler Cannon followed with two hits, two runs and two RBI to lead Greece Post. Cannon and Walker both connected on RBI-singles to ignite back-to-back three-run innings to give Greece a quick 6-1 lead to start the game. Nathan Brinza led the way with three RBI, including a two-run single in the sixth inning to give Greece a 9-5 lead and put the game out of reach. Dylan Savage collected two hits and a run while Derrick Allen singled and crossed home plate twice. Wes Sturrup added a hit, a run and an RBI while Jack Kelly doubled, driving in a run. Quinton Grimes tallied a hit. Michael Calogero allowed one run on one hit in one relief inning to pick up the win on the mound. For Irondequoit Post, Colby Mroczek led the way with two hits, three RBI and one run including an RBI-double during a four-run third inning while Aaden Bishop went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI-single to start a three-run sixth inning that cut the lead to one. Evan Bishop doubled, scoring two runs and crossed home plate while Michael Crandall added a hit and two runs. Jack Coon singled, driving in a run while Brayden Delly recorded a hit. Connor Welker drove in a run while Curtis Welker and Porter Herman both crossed home plate once.

ELY FAGAN POST (1-0) 8
FERRIS GOODRIDGE POST (0-1) 1

Mathew Gross struck out five and allowed one run on no hits with four walks over seven innings to earn the win on the mound for Ely Fagan Post. M. Turner went 2-for-3 with a run and two RBI while Austin Yageric finished with two hits, an RBI and a run to lead the offense. In the fifth tied 1-1, Turner ignited a four-run inning with a single that drove in a run and in the sixth, Turner started a three-run inning with another RBI-single. Gage Stewart and Oliver Wright both collected a hit, a run and an RBI apiece while J. Thomas added a hit and crossed home plate twice. Derek VanAuker doubled, scoring the first run of the game for Ely Fagan while Jacob Sova recorded a hit and a run. Mason Phillips drove in a run and crossed home plate. For Ferris Goodridge Post, Rowan Boyzuck scored the lone run of the game in the fourth inning thanks to a fielding error.
