LE ROY, N.Y. — Luke Davis hurled a complete and scored a pair of runs as Geneseo topped host Le Roy, 5-3 on Friday.
With the win, Geneseo (13-4/7-1) clinched back-to-back Livingston County Athletic Association Division II titles.
“These guys have wanted it,” fourth-year head coach Scott Miller said of the league title. “They worked hard. They knew what was at stake today. I’m super-proud of them. They came with energy. That’s huge for us.”
Davis struck out six while issuing three walks. The senior right-hander allowed three runs on nine hits.
“He’s been here a while,” Miller said of the fourth-year varsity performer. “He’s pitched well. I’m super-confident with him out there.”
Three of the hits Davis allowed came in consecutive fashion to start the Le Roy (13-3) fifth when the Oatkan Knights loaded the bases without getting a ball to the outfield.
A bases-loaded walk brought in a run, but Davis retired the next two batters. He left the bases loaded with a strike out and Geneseo had a 4-3 lead.
“His ball naturally sinks a little bit, so he gives up a lot of infield singles,” Miller said. “He doesn’t get frustrated. He keeps throwing, and I’m really proud of him for that.”
After a fly ball to start the fourth inning, Davis did not allow another ball to leave the infield. He retired the last seven batters he faced.
He improved to 6-1 on the season.
“In general, he’s just around the plate,” Miller said. “He doesn’t have pitches that miss by eight feet, pitches that miss by four feet in the dirt. He’s around the plate in general and so it really gives him a shot to mix. He keeps hitters off balance that way. If it’s close, they feel like they have to swing.”
Geneseo took advantage of two errors to score in the first inning. Brady O’Brien walked to lead the game and came home when Cooper Warner’s ball in the infield was mishandled. Warner eventually scored on a dropped third strike.
Davis singled to start the second, stole a pair of bases and came home on an Oren Ray base hit.
Warner walked with one out in the fifth and advanced on an error when pickoff attempt was mishandled. Preston Granger delivered with a two-out RBI base hit.

Le Roy’s Alex Spezzano was 3-4 with a run scored. Adam Woodworth doubled, walked and drove in two runs. Jagger Smith singled and scored twice. Brady McClurg, Luke Lathan, Jake Higgins and Jude Christ each had a hit.
