Amateur Brody Burgess (Victor) fired a four-under 67 in the U.S. Open Local Qualifier on Monday at Mendon Golf Club, garnering Co-Medalist honors.
Burgess, a West Virginia University golf commit, now moves onto the U.S. Open Final Qualifying stage where he will endure a 36-hole marathon for a chance to compete in the 125th U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania next month. Burgess will compete at one of 10 different sites in the United States.
After carding a bogey and a par on the first two holes, Burgess recorded six-straight holes under par, including an eagle three on the par-five sixth hole. He carded a front-nine 29, before a 38 on the back to be named co-medalist.
During his six-year varsity career at Victor, Burgess was named to the All-Greater Rochester Boys’ Golf Team three times, including being named Player of the Year in 2023. He has also competed in three NYSPHSAA tournaments and finished T3 in the 2024 tournament after shooting rounds of 74-67.
The exact number of qualifiers that come from “Golf’s Longest Day” is determined by the strength of the field and number of golfers competing. Last year 73 of the 937 golfers that advanced to the final qualifiers punched their ticket to the U.S. Open.
Victor alum Aiden Spampinato also qualified with a three-under 68 from Rochester.
Final Qualifiers are held on May 19 and June 2 in the United States.
