Constantino Financial Tuesday Baseball Wrap: DiCicco hurls gem in Thomas win; Schirmer leads Wayland-Cohocton

Cole Englert struck out eight in a complete-game effort to lead McQuaid. The senior allowed five runs (four earned) on six hits and three walks. Dom Corona led the offense with three RBI including a sacrifice fly in the first when McQuaid scored twice to take a lead it did not surrender. Thomas Bailey singled, walked twice, had two RBI and scored a run. Dan Luce walked and scored. Conor Forkey finished with three base on balls and two runs scored. Paul Rizzo doubled and walked. Jason Larsen was 2-4. Fairport’s Alexander Grejda went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored out of the leadoff spot. Sam Roselli singled and drove in a run. Garrett McNeil singled, walked and scored. Grant Ludwig drove in a run with a base hit. Jon Roessel singled and scored.

WEBSTER THOMAS (12-5) 8

Jake DiCicco hurled a no-hitter, and Webster Thomas ran its winning streak to eight. DiCicco struck out five, walked two and faced the minimum. The senior right-hander retired the first six batters he faced. After issuing a walk to lead the third, he set down the next 12 to come to the plate. The Webster Thomas infield turned a pair of double plays in the win. The first eight batters reached when the Titans sent 12 to the plate in a six-run third inning to blow the game open. CJ Sciortino, AJ LaLoggia and Tyler Estelle led with consecutive base hits to start the outburst. Estelle finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in the win. Owen Zimmer singled, walked scored twice and added two RBI. Danny Check and Nate Caracci both singled and drove in two. Drew Rosa singled and scored twice.

RED JACKET (5-9) 5
EAST HIGH (12-4) 6

Eric Jones went 2-for-2 with an RBI double as East scored six unanswered runs to erase a 5-0 deficit and win its fourth straight game. On the mound, Jones struck out eight and hurled a complete-game four-hitter. Mitchell Nieves and Luis Sanchez added two hits apiece for the Eagles. Sanchez drove in a run and also scored. Emille Diaz reached base twice including a walk to leadoff the fourth when East went on to score four runs. Diaz crossed home twice in the game. Omar Rodriguez and Yandiel Lopez also scored a run apiece. Red Jacket’s Barrett Wetherbee singled, reached base twice, stole two bases and came around to score on two occasions. Charlie Kolodziejski and Ashton Trapp scored a run apiece.

NORTHSTAR CHRISTIAN (8-8) 1
AQUINAS (10-7) 9

Mickey Hummel and Michael Duprey combined on a two-hitter and Aquinas won for the second time in three games. Hummel started and struck out five without allowing a hit over four innings to pick up the win. The senior walked two batters. Duprey fanned six in three innings of relief work. Trent Buttles paced the offense going 4-for-4 with a double, two stolen bases and three runs scored out of the leadoff spot. Brandon Speranza was 2-3 with a solo home run, four RBI and two runs scored. Michael Calogero doubled, walked three times and scored a run. Cameron Rider walked twice and scored twice. Sean Mayo walked and had an RBI. Brody Ignizio accounted for a run. Da’Vonn Stevens singled and drove in a run for Northstar.

C.G. FINNEY (9-7) 2
WILSON/EARLY COLLEGE (9-6) 9

Eui Martinez started, allowed three hits over five innings and went 5-for-5 at the plate with three RBI and two runs scored as Wilson/Early College avenged a previous loss with its seventh straight win. Keisel Cuevas also went 2-4 with two RBI and struck out five over two innings of relief work.  Joe Baldrich was 2-4 with two RBI and a run scored. Angel Loaiza had two hits including a double and a run scored. Finney took a 3-2 decision when the two teams met on April 22nd.

MIDLAKES (5-8) 0
PALMYRA-MACEDON (10-4) 10 (F/5)

Tino LoPresto struck out three over five shutout innings of two-hit ball, and Palmyra-Macedon avenged an earlier loss. Noah Dapolito finished 2-for-3 with a double to lead the offense. Dapolito drove in four and scored a run. LoPresto was 2-2 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored. Andrew West doubled, singled and scored on two occasions. Camron Quick tripled, walked, had two RBI and two runs scored. Trey Porpora doubled, walked, drove in a run and scored twice. Jordan Goff singled, walked and drove in a run. Shane Maier walked and scored. Midlakes took a 4-2 decision when the two teams met last Thursday.

NEWARK (8-8) 14
PENN YAN (0-12) 6

Devin Littlefield struck out nine, walked one and allowed one run on three hits over four innings to pick up the win for Newark. Nolan Benedict led the Newark offense going 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Nolan Rice finished 2- 5 with a triple and an RBI. Keane Brady was 3-5. Littlefield added a double. Michael McGavisk struck out five without issuing a walk over three innings of work. Clinton Miller went 2-4 with an RBI to lead Penn Yan.

SOUTH SENECA/ROMULUS (3-6) 9 (F/8)

Rowan Biggs scored three runs including the game winner in the top of the eighth to lead Naples. Biggs worked a leadoff walk to start the final frame. He stole second and third before taking advantage when the South Seneca/Romulus catcher went into foul territory to make the play on a pop foul. Biggs finished 2-for-2 with two doubles, three walks and an RBI. Grady Grove hurled three no-hit innings in relief to pick up the win. Grove struck out eight and faced one batter over the minimum. At the plate, Grove was 2-5 with an RBI and a run scored. Theron VanZandt doubled as part of a 2-3 effort with a walk and two runs scofed. Chase Bauman doubled, drove in a run and scored. Hunter Jacoby singled, walked, drove in a run and scored once. Samual Dufour led South Seneca/Romulus going 2-5 with a triple and a run scored.

GENEVA (5-10) 4
WATERLOO (6-7) 5

Dylan Caraballo and Chase Osterhout both finished 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Waterloo which scored two runs in the second and fourth innings to take a 5-2 lead. Caraballo tripled, stole a base, drove in a run and also scored. Osterhout doubled and scored twice; the junior struck out seven in a complete-game effort. He allowed four runs on eight hits and two walks. Logan Schoenheit was 1-3 with two RBI. Aidan Acquilano singled, stole a base and scored twice. Geneva’s Branden Santiago went 2-4, with an RBI and a run scored. Cristofer Rangel doubled, was 2-4 with a stolen base and two RBI.

HONEOYE (9-5) 0
WAYLAND-COHOCTON (11-4) 7

Tony Schirmer picked up the win going 5.2 innings scattering six hits while striking out seven as Wayland-Cohocton won for the ninth time in the past 10 games. Paetyn Michaud finished the combined shutout, giving up no hits while striking out three over the final 1.1 innings. Schirmer‘s two-out single was the key hit in a three-run fifth for the Eagles. Christian Lead had two hits for Honeoye.

HAVERLING (7-5) 3
LE ROY (11-2) 2

Dylan Wenban combined on a one-hitter and scored the winning run in the top of the seventh to lead Haverling. With the game knotted at two, Wenban led the final inning with a double. He moved to third on a ground out and scored on a Gage Thomas sacrifice fly. Wenban finished 2-for-4 in the game with two runs scored. The junior struck out two over a scoreless seventh inning to register a save. Eric Carney-Hendrix started and struck out eight over six innings of one-hit ball. Carney-Hendrix allowed two runs (one earned) on eight walks and a hit. Thomas also walked and scored in the game. Asher Phenes went 3-4 with two RBI. Carney-Hendrix accounted for a hit. Alex Spezzano went the distance for Le Roy with 11 strike outs. The senior allowed three runs on six hits and four walks. Adam Woodworth singled, walked and scored. Brady McClurg walked twice and came around to score. Le Roy had won 10 straight games entering Tuesday’s action.

DANSVILLE (8-4) 9
KESHEQUA (9-3) 1

Brady Henchen allowed one run on four hits and three walks over 5 2/3 innings as Dansville won its fourth straight game. Jake Kreiley led the offense going 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Carson Mays singled, walked twice and scored a run. Cam Delaney collected a single and a walk. Wyatt Everman doubled and scored a run. Keshequa’s Nolan Therrien went 3-4. Aiden Upright and Ryan Fox had a single apiece. Nathan Hillier singled and had an RBI.

Henry Shutts struck out 13 in a complete-game effort and sparked a four-run bottom of the sixth as Gananda avenged a previous loss with its sixth straight win. Shutts allowed four runs on one walk and six hits. With the game tied at four, the junior connected on a one-out double. He scored the go-ahead run on a single from teammate Will Schneemann. Owen Switzer capped the sixth with a two-run double. Switzer went 2-for-4 with four RBI. Shutts was 2-4. Maddox Stoughton was 2-3 with two runs scored. Schneemann scored three runs. Brady Wadsworth collected a single, a walk, an RBI and two runs scored. Anthony D’Agostino had two RBI. Austin Cincinello led Sodus going 2-3. The senior connected on a two-run double in the top of the sixth when Spartans scored three runs to knot the game at four. Cincinello accounted for three RBI in the game. Bradyn Orbaker was 2-3 with an RBI. Cooper Ingersoll, Garrett Barron and Evan Laird each had a hit and a run scored. Sodus defeated Gananda, 4-2 when the two teams met on April 28th. Sodus was the last remaining unbeaten team in Section V Baseball this season.

LYNDONVILLE (0-11) 0
NOTRE DAME-BATAVIA (11-2) 10 (F/5)

Liam Berger struck out eight over five innings of one-hit ball, and Notre Dame-Batavia won its fourth straight game and third consecutive by shutout. Berger walked two and faced two over the minimum using 60 pitches to finish off the win. The senior went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, walk and four RBI. Chase Antinore doubled, walked three times and scored twice. Adyn Horzempa was 2-3 with a run scored. Owen Bentley singled, drove in a run and scored. Carson Daniels walked twice, scored three runs and accounted for an RBI. Charles Cummings and Preston Viele both singled and scored. Colton Smith had the lone hit for Lyndonville.

KENDALL (14-1) 9
PEMBROKE (9-3) 0

Nick Cole scattered four hits and a walk over six shutout innings, and Kendall won its seventh straight game. Cole struck out 11. After allowing a two-out single in the first, Cole retired eight of the next batters he faced. Colby Hughes plated Charles D’Agostino with a two-out double in the first and scored on a Sam Conte to give the Eagles all the runs they needed. D’Agostino finished with three RBI and a run scored. Joe Conte doubled, walked, drove in two and scored. Michael Colucci walked three times and scored twice. Jonas Rhodes sngled and scored. Trey Newton, Jayden Bridge, Jarret Lewter and Landon Santini had a hit apiece for Pembroke.

OAKFIELD-ALABAMA (7-6) 14
LETCHWORTH (1-12) 7

John Cianfrini and Ryan Schnaufer had three hits apiece to pace a 13-hit attack as Oakfield-Alabama jumped out to 10-0 lead and cruised to a non-league win. Cianfrini went 3-for-4 with four runs scored. Schnaufer doubled as part of a 3-5 performance with two RBI and two runs scored. Travis Chaya struck out 11 against one walk in a complete-game effort to pick up the win. Jackson Gilbert tripled, walked and scored twice. Levi Kabel finished 2-4 with a double, a walk, an RBI and a run scored. David Schnaufer was 1-3 with a walk, two RBI and a run scoed. Chaya and Jake Gehlert both singled, scored and had an RBI. Letchworth’s Bryce Roche was 3-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Hayden Schroeder was 2-4 with a double and a run scored. Maynard Fuller doubled, walked and scored. Ayden Miller was 1-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Adam Webster singled and scored twice.

GENESEE VALLEY-BELFAST (15-1) 16
HINSDALE (1-13) 1

Throughout a steady drizzle, Ben Cater ran his season record to 3-0 throwing a two-hitter. The sophomore struck out 10 while issuing one walk. Ryan Daciw, Mason Thomas and Damon Davis connected on a home run apiece in the win. Cater went 3-for-4. Davis finished 3-3 while Thomas, Derek Calanni and Ian Mackenzie each had two hits. Hinsdale’s Jonas Jackson and Roberts Childs accounted for a hit apiece.

ARKPORT-CANASERAGA (11-1) 11
AVOCA-PRATTSBURGH (7-6) 0

Micah Marvin struck out 14 and hurled a no-hitter as Arkport-Canaseraga won its third straight. Marvin retired 12 of the last 13 batters he faced. At the plate, Marvin went 2-for-5 with a double and three RBI. Eli Merry finished a triple shy of the cycle and drove in three. Caden Carey was 2-4 with a double, walk, four RBI and two runs scored.
