Monday Softball Wrap: Pietrzykowski fans 14 in Alexander win; Cooley paces Irondequoit offense

IRONDEQUOIT (1-0) 13

Ella Cooley finished with three hits including a two-run double to lead Irondequoit. Anasophia Cartagena and Emilia Newell combined in the circle for the win. Eighth-graders Olivia Cooley and Anna Ortiz both collected their first varsity hits in the win.

YORK (0-1) 1
HORNELL (1-0) 5

Maddy Ezard scored the lone York run. Hornell pushed across four runs in the fifth inning.

PERRY (0-1) 0
LIVONIA (1-0) 4

Ava Cook struck out six and scattered three hits and nine walks in a complete-game effort to lead Livonia. Gwenyth Strom drove in two with a single in the second to stake the Bulldogs to a 3-0 lead. Alaina Turek tripled and came home on a Mattie Collins base hit in the third. Madison Beach singled, walked and scored a run. Chloe Meys walked and scored. Perry’s Isabella Zalewski struck out 10.

BYRON-BERGEN (0-1) 1

Emily Pietrzykowski struck out 14 in a complete-game and went 2-for-3 with a double and home run to lead Alexander. Pietrzykowski worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the second and then retired the eight of the next 10 batters faced. She allowed one run on five hits and three walks. Alexander sent 14 to the plate in the first inning and took an 8-0 lead. Faith Goodenbury went 1-2 with two walks, an RBI and two runs scored in the win. Ava Yax was 2-4 with two RBI and a run scored. Melissa Sawyer and Lilly Szymkowiak both finished 1-3 with a walk, RBI and two runs scored. Byron-Bergen’s Lily Stalica singled and drove in the lone Bees’ run.
