ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Kamyra Clyburn scored six of her team-high 10 points in the first half when Monroe grabbed a double-digit lead and went on to beat Edison Tech/World of Inquiry, 38-35 in Rochester City Athletic Conference (RCAC) Girls’ Basketball action on Wednesday.
Clyburn connected three times from the floor in the opening quarter as the Red Jackets built a 14-2 lead.
“It was transition for us, getting that ball going because we noticed that they were slower to get back,” said Monroe head coach Marie Hunt. “The quicker we were able to push it up, the easier we were able to get it inside and finish around the basket.”
Clyburn drove right and finished a layup to make it a 10-0 game. The senior guard then found Julie Garcia ahead of the defense and delivered a three-quarter court pass that her teammate caught and finished with a layup to open the second quarter.
“We had to make sure we were in their faces,” Hunt said. “We stayed in a 3-2 (zone defense) to start off. We know that they like to shoot from the perimeter. We wanted to get the ball and go.”

The win was the third straight for Monroe (7-10) which avenged an earlier loss (83-61) to Edison (7-10).
“Being on Senior Night, it was a big win,” Hunt said. “The girls have been working hard and it’s just all about not giving up. It’s just pushing themselves and getting past their limitations.”
Garcia had nine points in the win. Jazmine Flowers and Kenya Scott added five points apiece.
Edison/WOIS guard Nakayla Costello led all scorers with 18 points including 11 in the fourth quarter when the Inventors used a 19-9 advantage to make it a one-possession game.
