IRONDEQUOIT, N.Y. — Goti Bandas and Josh Morse combined for 13 first-quarter points, as host Irondequoit jumped out to a double-digit lead on the way to a 65-43 win over crosstown rival Eastridge on Monday night.
Bandas connected four times from the floor in the opening eight minutes as the Eagles built a 22-12 lead.
“You have to come ready to play,” second-year Irondequoit head coach Kyle Trevas said of his team’s quick start. “If you’re not, you’re going to get beat. These guys are as prepared as anybody. We put a lot of time into the scouting report and walk-through. The guys executed, and they didn’t let up.”
DJ Kemp finished with a team-high three 3-pointers and matched Bandas with a game-high 13 points. Kemp was one of six Irondequoit scorers in the third quarter when the Eagles built a comfortable 49-33 lead.
“It was definitely nice to see,” Trevas said of his squad’s ability to play with a lead. “We always worry about letting up and things like that. They put their nose to the grindstone did what they had to do.”
The win was the third straight for Irondequoit (8-7) which is above .500 for the first time since December 19th.
“It’s really nice to get back to that,” Trevas said. “We tell the kids ‘The games are there for you, but you got to do the things that we preach every day in practice: defend, rebound the basketball and execute.’ We still have a heckuva stretch here. We hope to finish over .500, recalibrate and get ready for sectionals.”
Morse, playing in his second game back after missing five starts with an injury, scored 10 points. Anthony Major also had 10 points in the win. Myles Wynn scored seven points. Chase Leonardo added six.

“We went through some stretches where we didn’t (score), but the guys stuck with game plan and continued to play good defense,” Trevas said.
Eastridge’s Jeremiah Morales-Diaz led all scorers with 17 points.
