ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Jazmine Flowers and Kenya Scott scored 15 points apiece while Kamyra Clyburn added 12 as host Monroe defeated Padilla HS at Franklin Campus, 54-27 in the Rochester City Athletic Conference action on Friday.
Flowers accounted for nine points in the first quarter when Monroe (4-6) jumped out to a 13-6 lead.
“She’s very aggressive,” Monroe head coach Marie Hunt said of the ninth-grade forward. “If she doesn’t overthink and we can keep that confidence in her, she’s able to pull off whatever move she wants. She’s just got to push herself.”
Flowers connected four times from the floor and converted 1-of-2 free throws in the opening eight minutes.
Clyburn and Scott were two of five Redjackets who contributed to the offensive production in the second quarter.
“We struggled earlier in the season with moving the ball, swinging it and getting everybody involved,” Hunt said. “Today, we did a lot better job of moving it across and finding those openings that made for easier layups.”
Clyburn and Scott both scored five points in the second frame. Kimani Mitchell added a 3-pointer. Aaliyah Tucker accounted for a field goal, and La’Nyah Taylor hit 1-of-2 free throws.

Monroe led 29-17 at halftime.
“We’re going harder in practice,” Hunt said of the reason for the success on the court, Friday. “I’m pushing them a little, pushing them past their own limits.”
Flowers scored four points in the third quarter and set up teammate Julivette Garcia for a layup in the open court as Monroe stretched its lead to 23 at 42-19.
“Jazmine and I have been working outside of practice on her footwork and getting out of her head,” Hunt said. “When you put the work in with any athlete, you want to see them get better. You also want to see them utilize the drills and the different skills that you’re doing in the game. I’m proud of her for being able to do it on her own.”
The win was the third straight for Monroe which is 4-3 since opening the season with three straight losses.
Navaya Lovett led Padilla (0-9) with nine points. Chloe Jarvis and Paola Lorenzana had six apiece.
