For the second straight week the girls’ basketball teams from Hilton (Class AA), Hornell (Class B) and Elba (Class D) hold the top spots in the weekly New York State Sportswriters Association (NYSSWA) polls. In all, 21 local squads are listed among the state’s best. Of those, 10 teams will see action this weekend including four games that feature head-to-head matchups between state-ranked teams.
Marcus Whitman (6-0/No. 11 NYSSWA Class B) hosts Dundee/Bradford (6-1/No. 15 NYSSWA Class C) in a battle at the top of Finger Lakes West. Whitman averages 53.2 points per game and has held all of its opponents under 30 so far this year. The Wildcats will have to slow down Dundee/Bradford’s Kendall Parker who topped the 1,000-point career-scoring mark last season. A 4:30 p.m. tip-off is scheduled.
