ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Braelen Broome and Ethan Krog combined for 60 points to lead C.G. Finney boys’ basketball past host Rochester Academy Charter School (RACS), 71-62 in Private-Parochial League action, Wednesday night.
Leading 22-21 midway through the second quarter, the duo accounted for all of the offense in a 14-0 run.
“Those two are tough,” said Finney head coach Joe Marchand. “We’re going to need some scoring from other players, but them staying hot and continuing to be able to score helped us.”
Broome finished off a spin move in the lane and then hit a 3-pointer next trip down the floor. One possession later, Krog slipped ahead of the defense for a layup. Broome scored on a second-chance opportunity and converted one-of-two from the free throw line. Krog hit a pull-up jumper, and Broome capped the run grabbing a defensive rebound and going the length of the floor a layup.

Finney (1-0) led 36-21.
“We know there is a big load on them and to ask them to be more efficient shooters when we’re asking them to do all the scoring is hard for them, but they got it,” Marchand said.
Marchand credited his defense which kept Rochester Academy’s Joe Aiken and Jacob Rybczynski in check while not allowing the rest of the Racers to get into rhythm.
“Our triangle and two just got a little bit tighter,” Marchand said of the second-quarter run. “We tried to make the rest of the team for RACS (0-1) score. They only scored nine in the first half.”
Aiken accounted for 12 of his team-high 24 points in the first half. Ryybczynski had six of his 16.
“If they couldn’t keep the scoring up with us, the lead was going to spread,” Marchand said. “We kinda knew that, and that’s what happened.”
Finney scored the first seven points of the third quarter to take its largest lead of the game.
Broome connected on a pair from the free throw line. Krog grabbed a loose ball and went the distance for a layup. Broome hit his second triple of the game. The Falcons led 43-27.
“We told them they had to be taking better shots,” Marchand said. “We knew there was a lot of pressure. They were much more efficient in the second half. Ethan became very efficient.”
Finney maintained a double-digit lead throughout the second half until a basket at the buzzer.
Broome finished with a game-high 33 points. Krog added 27.
