Advantage Federal Credit Union Girls’ Soccer Far West Regional Preview: Fairport and Lancaster to meet in Class AAA rematch

For the second time in as many years the girls’ soccer teams from Fairport and Lancaster will square off for the NYS Class AAA Far West Regional title. A 5:45 p.m. kickoff is scheduled Saturday at Williamsville East High School. Here’s what you need to know:

FAIRPORT RED RAIDERS (11-5-0/Monroe County Division I)
vs.
 LANCASTER LEGENDS (11-6-1/ECIC I)

How they arrived here: As the top seed in a three-team bracket, Fairport (No. 8 NYSSWA) earned a bye to the championship and then defeated No. 2 Rush-Henrietta, 6-0. Lancaster (No. 18 NYSSWA) opened sectionals with 2-0 win over West Seneca and then topped Niagara Falls, 5-1 in the championship game.

Total goals scored: Fairport (48), Lancaster (49)

Total goals allowed: Fairport (32), Lancaster (20)

Trends: Fairport has won four straight and five of six. Lancaster also has taken four in a row heading into regionals.

Players to watch for Fairport: Ava Bagnato Sr. M (2 goals, 1 assist); Eliana Biehler Fr. M (2 goals, 7 assists); Savanna Biehler Jr. F (28 goals, 2 assists); Zainab Khalid Jr. M (1 goal, 2 assists); Delaney McIntyre Sr. F (1 goal, 2 assists); Kate Pecora So. D (3 assists); Lola Pucci Sr. M (1 goal, 5 assists); Addison Tally Jr. GK (114 saves, 1,083 MP); Andrea Wilson Sr. M (10 goals, 10 assists).

History 101: Fairport will make its fourth trip to state quarterfinals with a 2-1 record in the previous three appearances including a 2-1 decision over Lancaster in last year’s regional. Lancaster is looking for its first regional win in three appearances since 2021.

 What’s next: The winner will face either Ward Melville (XI) or Oceanside (VIII) in the state semifinals. That match is scheduled for Saturday, November 16th at Tompkins Cortland Community College.
