SPENCERPORT, N.Y. — Ryan Mathis and Trevor Scoppa scored goals less than three minutes apart early in the second half, and top-seeded Fairport went on to defeat No. 4 Rush-Henrietta, 2-0 in Section V Class AAA action, Thursday night at Spencerport Central Schools.
With the win, Fairport, the reigning champion, advances to Tuesday’s final.
Mathis snapped a scoreless tie in the 46th minute when the senior attack received a ball from Tim Donner inside the 18, pivoted and sent a right-footed volley into the back of the net.
The goal was the team-leading 14th of the season from Mathis.
Mathis then freed Scoppa along the left flank for a 2-nil lead.
Fairport will play either No. 2 McQuaid or No. 3 World of Inquiry/Edison/Padilla/SOTA in Tuesday’s championship.
