ONTARIO CENTER, N.Y. — Amaya Glessing connected on a pair of goals, and host Wayne (10-0-1) stayed unbeaten with a 2-nil victory over Gananda in non-league action, Saturday.
Glessing needed less than four minutes to get the Eagles on the board. The sophomore midfielder stepped in front of a clearing before beating two defenders off the dribble and going inside post for her first goal of the game.
“She’s a playmaker,” said Wayne head coach Bill Jordan. “This team played her tougher than most teams we’ve faced. I think they knew exactly what she’s capable of doing. For her to make the moves. It’s that soccer mentality.”
Glessing made it a 2-nil game with 13:37 remaining in the contest.

Gananda (7-3-0) came into the game winners of two straight and seven of eight. The Blue Panthers were averaging better than four goals per game.
Summer Bathrick made four saves for the shutout, the Eagles seventh clean sheet of the season.
Jordan pointed to the play of his defense.
“We played with two defensive middies today versus one. We know when we play against a team that has that attack power, we invert our 4-3-3. We make the three midfielders one attacking and two defensive mids. It worked out really well, especially in the second half.
“I can’t say enough about my back four. Even going back to last year, we only had five or six goals scored on us in league play. They’re just competitors. They buy into everything that I give them. They’re a joy to coach.”
Sydney Howard assisted on Glessing’s second goal.
Gananda’s Avery Hoffmann made 13 saves.
Wayne is one of four remaining unbeaten teams in Section V Girls’ Soccer along with Spencerport (11-0-1), Byron-Bergen (12-0-0) and Fillmore (11-0-0). Spencerport (AA), Byron-Bergen (C2) and Fillmore (D) each won titles in 2023.
Wayne is looking to claim its first sectional championship since 1991.
Wayne travels to play at Geneva on Monday. A 7:00 p.m. start time is scheduled.
Gananda, a Class C2 finalist a year ago, won Class C1 in 2022 when the Blue Panthers went unbeaten in the regular season and won its first 19 games before falling in the regional qualifier.
Gananda hosts Aquinas on Monday for a 6:30 p.m. kickoff.
