Rush-Henrietta graduate Lanae-Tava Thomas advanced in the 200 meter run at the Paris Olympics on Sunday, finishing tenth in opening heats for Jamaica, the nation of her birth.
Thomas finished the 200 meter in 22.70 seconds, second in her heat and 0.32 behind the heat leader, American Brittany Brown. Her time was a half-second behind the overall leader in heats, American Gabby Thomas.
As one of the top three finishers in her heat, Thomas advances straight to the 200 meter semifinals. The semifinals star at 2:45 P.M. on Monday, with coverage online, on Peacock, and on NBC.
Another athlete with Rochester ties also competes on Monday: Roberts Wesleyan University’s Brynn King takes part in the pole vault qualifying round at 4:40 A.M. Coverage is online (with valid TV subscription), on Peacock, and USA Network.
