Wood played in his first game after being reinstated from the injured list after tweaking his hamstring on May 23 and was able to draw a walk in the defeat.
After falling behind to the Mets 4-0 in the second inning, Jackson Cluff stopped the bleeding slightly with an RBI base hit that drove in Juan Yepez in the fourth inning. Yepez led the Red Wings in hits on Tuesday collecting three in his four appearances at the dish.
Shortly after Syracuse regained its four-run lead in the bottom of the fifth, Riley Adams brought Rochester back within three when he took a 1-2 pitch 362 feet over the left field wall.
Syracuse ran away with the game in the bottom of the sixth and bottom of the eighth when the Mets pushed across a combined seven runs to put the game way out of reach for Rochester.
Pablo Reyes led the way for Syracuse with six RBIs, while Rylan Bannon collected three RBIs for the Mets.
Rochester’s five pitchers struggled to get anything going as none of them lasted longer than two and a third innings. The five arms surrendered 12 runs on 16 hits including a home run and seven walks. They were able to fan four Mets during Tuesday’s contest.
Rochester will look to as manager Matthew LeCroy would say, “flush this game” and bounce back.
