The Rochester Red Wings finally won a game at the St. Paul Saints, defeating the Twins AAA affiliate on Wednesday, 7-5. According to the team, it’s Rochester’s first win in the state of Minnesota since 1955

The Wings have struggled against the Saints since they entered affiliated baseball and took the Minnesota affiliation during Major League Baseball’s takeover of the minor leagues in 2020, going 3-9 since then, including a six-game sweep when they visited St. Paul for the first time in 2022 and a loss on Tuesday, 15-9.

Center-fielder Alex Call continued his hot hitting, going 2-for-4 with two RBI on the night, both coming on a second inning double that put Rochester ahead, 2-1. The 29-year-old has had an extra-base hit in four straight games, the longest active streak in the International League. Call scored Rochester’s third run later in the second, coming home on a Brady Lindsly single to make it 3-1.

The Saints gave chase the rest of the game, cutting the Wings lead to one in the third, but Rochester remained ahead the rest of the game. Rico Garcia pulled off the two-inning save to finish it, striking out three Saints in a row to end the game with two men on.

The Red Wings continue their series with St. Paul on Thursday at 7:37 P.M. Rochester lefty DJ Herz is scheduled to face St. Paul righty Caleb Boushley.

10-10 after 20 games. Thats sort of progress I guess for the Washington ‘era’. Team-wise, Wings didn’t enjoy a whole lot of excellence while with the Twins but they had a lot of interesting players cycle thru over the years. Our best years were with the O’s…who actually had a following here in Rochester. (I don’t recall how popular the Cardinals were here)

After James Wood had that great 4 for 5 day with two HRs, he has hit under .200. He is still a work in progress.
