Jack Leasure Shooting and Skills Camp Championship Preview: Hornell and Dansville to decide Girls’ Class B title

Hornell and Dansville will meet in the sectional final for the second straight year on Saturday to decide the 2024 Section V Class B Girls’ Basketball Championship. Here’s the breakdown:

How they got here: Hornell defeated No. 16 Addison, 82-15, in the first round before downing No. 8 Livonia, 61-53, in the quarterfinals and No. 5 Wellsville, 71-61, in the semis. Dansville beat No. 15 Penn Yan by a 35-19 score in the first round, took down No. 7 Williamson/Marion, 71-40, in the quarterfinals and defeated No. 3 seed Mynderse, 49-34, in the semis.

History 101: This is the second straight year these squads will clash in the sectional final. Hornell defeated Dansville, 54-47, to claim its first sectional title in program history last season. This is the Red Raiders’ third consecutive championship appearance as well. Hornell fell to state finalist Waterloo in the 2022 Class B1 title game. Dansville is making its fifth sectional final appearance in the last six years. The Mustangs won back-to-back blocks in 2019 and 2020 for their lone sectional championships in program history. Dansville fell to Waterloo in Class B2 in 2021.

What’s next: Winner will face the Section VI Class B champion in the NYS Class AA Far West Regional.
