PITTSFORD, N.Y. — Leah Thompson scored four of her 14 points and helped key a decisive second quarter run as No. 2 Hilton clinched a spot in Saturday’s Section V Class AA championship with a 59-48 victory over No. 6 Bishop Kearney, Wednesday at Pittsford Sutherland High School.
Tied at 16, the Cadets closed the first half on a 16-6 run.
Elena Graziano connected on a 3-pointer to kick start the surge. Thompson followed with the next four points including a traditional 3-point play.
Mallory Heise hit a wing three. Ella Clark scored the next four points before Thompson set up Heise for a bucket and a 32-22 Hilton lead.
Clark connected on three 3-pointers and scored the first 11 Hilton points of the third quarter.
Heise hit a three from the top of the key to give Hilton its largest lead of the game at 54-38 midway through the fourth quarter.
Kearney did cut the deficit to single digits at 56-48 when Asia Wilson converted a pair of free throws.
Clark finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Heise had 12 points and eight assists.
BK’s Wilson led all scorers with 21 including eight in the fourth quarter.
Hilton advances to a sectional championship for the first time since 2016. The Cadets will face either top-seeded Victor or No. 5 Webster Schroeder.
