ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Terence Thompson finished with a double-double, and host Franklin won its third consecutive game with a 75-55 victory over Webster Schroeder.

The 6-foot-8 senior center scored nine straight points and sparked a 15-2 second-half run to lead the Bulldogs.

“He sat a good portion of the first quarter and some of the second because of foul trouble,” said Franklin head coach Joe Jackson. “Our guards started looking in to him, and he got some easy baskets. That was the key in the second half.”

Clinging to a one-point lead at 43-42 late in the third quarter, Thompson finished in the lane then converted a 1-of-2 free throws. He followed with baskets on the last three possessions of the third quarter to give Franklin (12-6) a 52-44 lead.

Kollin McCullough opened the fourth with a 3-pointer, and Shawn Goins followed suit with a triple of his own. The lead was double digits at 58-44.

At the other end of the floor, Franklin held Schroeder to one field goal over 11 trips down the floor.

“When Terence came back into the game, they were one shot and done,” Jackson said. “We take pride in our defense. We know that if we play defense and we hold teams under 60 points, we stand a good chance of winning.”

Schroeder (13-6) had won three straight and six of seven heading into Monday’s action.

“We played into their hands,” said Webster Schroeder head coach Rashaad Stokeline. “We started to turn the ball over a little bit. They did a very good job of disguising when they were going to bring pressure and when they were going to relax it. That led to us getting casual, and then they just blitzed us.”

Thompson scored back-to-back buckets early in the fourth then Shawn Goins forced a turnover and led Clarence Thompson into the open floor for a two-handed slam. The lead was double digits at 64-49, and Franklin did not allow Schroeder to get within 10 points for the remainder of the contest.

“We think we wear teams down,” Jackson said. “Even though we’re in a zone (defense), our pressure is relentless in the half-court. We felt like later in the game that the amount of shots that they were making, that they would start missing some. That was the case.”

Terence Thompson had 22 points, 13 rebounds and three blocks. The double-double was his 16th in 18 games played. Goins handed out seven assists and matched his teammate for game-high honors with 22 points. McCullough accounted for 19 points and eight rebounds.

“We always can find a mismatch somewhere in the lineup with the guys we have,” Jackson said. “We’re just trying to find the open guys and the guy that has the mismatch. Tonight, it was Terence. In the second half, he went crazy. We just look to capitalize wherever we can get some easy buckets.”

Schroeder’s Anthony DeRosa connected on five 3-pointers including three straight early in the third quarter when the Warriors cut a seven-point halftime deficit to one at 43-42. Aydin Stephens added 12 points and Jack Kelly 11 for Schroeder. Jake Insley had three points, nine assists and nine rebounds.

“They exposed a lot of things about us,” Stokelin said. “We can learn from this game as far as taking care of the ball and staying with each other. This game, in a sense, helped us more than it hurt us.”

Franklin travels to East on Wednesday for the completion of a game that was suspended in early January. The Bulldogs close the regular season when they host Edison/SWW on Thursday for a 6:30 PM start.

Schroeder hosts Spencerport on Wednesday for a 7:15 PM tip-off.
