ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Avery Council and Jalen Taggart combined for 42 points to lead Rush-Henrietta past host Edison Tech/SWW, 73-41 in non-league action, Monday night.
The duo helped the Royal Comets to a 20-point halftime advantage.
“They’re cracking at the ceiling to see what they can be,” said first-year Rush-Henrietta head coach Calvin Betts. “They’re showing their potential. They have a lot more room to grow.”
Taggart scored eight of his game-high 26 points in the second quarter. He connected three times from the floor and converted a pair of free throw chances. Council added four points in the second as R-H took a 41-21 lead into the locker room.
Taggart had three 3-pointers on the night along with five rebounds and three assists. Council connected twice from distance as part of a 16-point effort. He had five assists and seven steals.

“They’re both only sophomores,” Betts said. “The future is very bright for those young men. I think Jalen Taggart is one of the better players in Section V. Avery is also proving he deserves to be mentioned among the better players.”
The win was the third straight for R-H (9-8) matching a season-high.
“We’re starting to click,” Betts said. “Guys are starting to play more for each other. I thought earlier on in the season we had some bad habits. Guys kinda looking for themselves. As you see guys are moving the ball, talking, communicating and working for each other offensively and defensively.”
Jahquin Brown scored nine points and led the Royal Comets with 16 rebounds.
“We’re gang-rebounding,” Betts said. “We put a lot of emphasis on attacking the glass. Our guards, our bigs they’re all crashing the glass.”
Ethan Dengler finished with four points, three rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Davijon Lipscomb led Edison/SWW with 16 points.
