ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Isaiah Anderson scored seven of his 17 points during a 12-3 third-quarter run as host McQuaid Jesuit pulled away from a single-possession game and went on to defeat Wilson Magnet, 75-53 in Rochester City Athletic Conference (RCAC) action Thursday night.
Coming out of a timeout leading 38-36, Jaiyden Jones started the decisive run with a bucket in the lane.
Anderson scored the next six McQuaid points.
“That run was good D (defense) leading to O (offense),” said McQuaid head coach Jack Leasure. “That’s the kinda stuff we need to get going.”
Anderson finished in the lane then converted a steal and layup. The senior guard then pushed the advantage to double digits at 46-36.
“We just locked in defensively,” Leasure said. “This team is capable of rebounding pretty well and beating teams up on the glass when we’re really focused on it. As any coach will tell you, when you play good D, easy offense comes for itself.”
McQuaid (4-9) extended its lead to 19 at 62-43 to end the third quarter and took a 64-43 lead early in the fourth.
“We’re doing a better job of looking for everybody but kinda knowing where to look for each other. Passes earlier in the season that should have been in a different spot are now a little bit cleaner. I think we’re improving in that area.”

The win came after a one-point setback to Franklin (83-82) in McQuaid’s most recent outing. Of the Jesuit Knights nine losses, seven have been by single digits.
“We feel like we’re improving, and we feel pretty good about where we’re at as a team. But it’s hard to look at our record and still feel confident. Any win right now for us, we’re feeling good about.”
Wilson’s Michael Mitchell grabbed a defensive rebound and went the length of the floor for a layup. DaSiah White followed with a leaner along the baseline, and Mitchell added a jumper from the right corner to pull the Wildcats (2-13) within two at 38-36.
“We need to be able to compete at a high level for 32 minutes,” said Wilson head coach Victor Norflee. “We thought that we would be able to come out and build on the momentum that we had in the first half. Unfortunately, we did not bring the same intensity out that we needed to keep it close in the fourth quarter.”
White led Wilson with 18 points. Mitchell had 12. Paris Brooken (8), Kendrick Moxley (7), Ibrahim Hakizimana (6) and Shamar Pittman (2) also scored for Wilson.
