IRONDEQUOIT, N,Y. — Jalonie Pittman and Marquis Tubbs finished with career-highs as host Eastridge defeated Edison Tech/SWW, 70-61 in non-league action, Monday night.

Pittman scored nine of his team-high 27 points in the fourth quarter. Tubbs connected four times from behind the 3-point arc and added 24 points in the win.

“They’re great kids, great basketball players,” said Eastridge head coach Dan Roser. “They really feed off each other. They’re so comfortable playing with each other.”

Pittman, who came into the contest averaging a team-high 16.2 points per game, topped the 20-point mark for the fourth time this season. Tubbs scored in double figures for the fifth time in 2023-24.

“They look for one another,” Roser said. “They’re a great combo. Both of them can get to the basket. ‘Quis’ is an awesome 3-point shooter.

The win was the second straight for the Lancers (7-4) who were playing without starting forward Brennen Russo (illness) and Ty Kunzer-Borelli (season-ending injury).

“Just trying to gain chemistry for the team because we are playing a lot of guys,” Roser said. “It’s starting to come together a little bit.”

Eastridge pulled away from a one-point game with six minutes remaining when the Lancers used an 18-10 advantage to close out the contest.

Amere Rodgers hit a pair of 3-pointers during the decisive run.

“It’s really our defense that leads to our offense in a lot of cases,” Roser said. “The kids are buying into that and doing a good job with it.”

Pittman and Tubbs combined for all the offense as Eastridge jumped out to a 19-9 lead in the first quarter.

The Inventors responded with a 13-0 run. Javier Medina’s traditional 3-play gave Edison a 20-19. Kyair Calloway converted a rebound and putback for a 22-19 lead.

“Edison’s tough,” Roser said. “They’ve played some really good competition this year. We knew we had to come out and be ready.”

The Inventors’ Davijon Lipscomb topped all scorers with 29 points.

“Lipscomb is super-tough. We had to do everything we could to limit him. We didn’t do a great job of that because he finished with 29. I thought we made his buckets tough. We kinda limited all the other guys.”

Larry Wigent’s corner 3 gave Eastridge a 44-34 lead early in the third quarter.

Lipscomb’s pull-up jumper coming out of a timeout with 6:08 remaining in the contest made it a one-point game at 52-51.

“It was a long six minutes,” Roser acknowledged. “We got up a couple different times throughout the game. We could never pull away. They hung tough and made some shots.

“At the end of the game, the guys really stepped it up with their defense. We got a lot of loose balls, got some big steals at the end and limited their possessions.”

Rodgers and Jalyn Collins took back-to-back charges in the closing moments of the game.

“Those were momentum changers for us. Guys are buying in and selling out in the paint. It’s not easy to take a charge, but a huge momentum swing in the game.”

Eastridge hosts Greece Odyssey for a 7 PM tip-off on Friday.

Edison (5-5) hosts McQuaid Jesuit for 6:15 PM start on Wednesday.
