Jamie Schneider guided Spencerport girls’ soccer to its third NYSPHSAA title and first undefeated season in program history.
United Soccer Coaches announced Friday that the Rangers’ head man will be honored as the National Large Public School Girls Coach of the Year.
“Very honored to receive this award and how it represents the girls’ soccer program at Spencerport,” Schneider said via text message. “For me, it represents what a quality job the team did this year with all the success.”
Spencerport finished with a record of 23-0-0 and claimed the NYS Class AA title with 2-0 victory over Smithtown West (XI). The win capped a season that saw the Rangers match a state record with 20 shutouts. Schneider’s side outscored their opponents by a combined total of 102-3.
“This reflects the success we have achieved over the years. This comes from having such quality athletes on and off the field along with a great high school community and great families that make a commitment to the program.”
Spencerport defeated Webster Schroeder, 3-0 in the Class AA championship game for a Section V record eighth straight title. The Rangers handed Schroeder (17-3-0) all three of its losses on the season.
“Jamie and his entire staff always have the Spencerport teams well-prepared and organized,” Schroeder head coach Kent Brown said. “They play a difficult style of soccer to defend against. His teams play hard and clean and they compete at a high level and have always represented their school with class.”
Spencerport went on to win its seventh straight regional title. Under Schneider, the Rangers have reached the state final on four different occasions and amassed a record of 148 wins, 6 losses and 13 ties since 2016 including a mark of 74-1-5 since 2020.
Spencerport holds the state record with a 64-game unbeaten streak set from 2016 to 2018.
“Over his time as coach, he has built Spencerport into a state power and every year they are always in contention for sectional and state championships,” Brown said. “The success of the Spencerport program has helped build their name across the state and that success has also helped build Section V’s reputation as a whole at the state level.”
Spencerport has won eight sectional titles under Schneider who recently finished his 21st season at the helm.
Schneider will receive his award at the United Soccer Coaches National Convention in January. The event will be held in Anaheim, California.
Former Spencerport boys’ coach, Ron Broadbent won the national award in 1981.
