Seven schools claimed sectional championships during the recent playoffs. Section V Boys’ Soccer acknowledged the student-athletes that led those teams and more with the 2023 All-Tournament Teams.
Fairport won the Class AAA title and Ryan Mathis led the way with five goals in two games. The junior midfielder unleashed four points in the Red Raiders’ 8-0 semifinals win over World Of Inquiry/Edison Tech/Franklin/School Of The Arts and accounted for the lone score in the title game against McQuaid. Tyler Burton, Jackson DuBose and Aiden Nelson also highlighted the Class AAA All-Tournament team. DuBose added a goal of his own in the semifinals while Burton dished out three assists. Nelson recorded six saves in the final and had a pair of shutouts.
Sectional finalist McQuaid placed three players on the AAA All-Tournament team: Sam Leone, Keirnan McManus and Alex Morey. McManus’s goal was the difference in the Knights’ 1-0 semifinals victory over Rush-Henrietta. Morey allowed one goal in two sectional contests.
Marlo Rogers-Collier and Samundra Sharma of Rush-Henrietta along with Pah Gay of World Of Inquiry/Edison Tech/Franklin/School Of The Arts rounded out the Class AAA All-Tournament team. Gay scored one of the Griffins’ two first-half goals in their 3-2 quarterfinals win over East High/Monroe/Northeast.
Churchville-Chili’s Elijah Bailey, Camden Bean, Aidan Ozkaynak and Joshua Smith highlighted the Class AA team. Bailey’s two goals occurred in key moments during the Saints’ run to their first title in 33 years. The senior midfielder scored one of Churchville-Chili’s two second-half goals in their 2-1 first-round victory over Victor. Bailey also found the back of the net in overtime of the final to lift the Saints to a 3-2 block-clinching win over Spencerport. Ozkaynak netted a point in a 4-0 quarterfinals triumph of Canandaigua and put the Saints on the board in the first half of the championship match. Smith registered 14 saves throughout the tournament.
Jack Distaffen, Justice Hinman and Josiah Warrington represented Class AA finalist Spencerport on the All-Tournament team. Hinman conducted the offense with four goals and two assists, highlighted by scoring twice in a 3-1 semifinals victory over Penfield. The senior forward’s two dimes came in a 14-0 first-round win over Rochester Prep/Vertus/Rochester Academy. Hinman scored in the first half of both the quarterfinals and final as well. Distaffen and Warrington spearheaded a Rangers’ defense which posted two clean sheets and allowed one goal through the first three sectional games. Warrington stepped up offensively as well, scoring one of Spencerport’s two second-half goals in the semifinals. Distaffen combined for eight saves in the final two matches.
Shawn Cavey and Justin Kurtz from Hilton earned the postseason honor. Cavey carried the defense to three clean sheets and applied nine saves in the first round and quarterfinals. Kurtz assisted Cavey in the backline and also commanded the offense in the first half of the Cadets’ 6-0 quarterfinals win over Brockport with a goal plus an assist.
Brock Bell and Paul Rolland of Penfield were named to the Class AA team. Rolland found the back of the net five times in three games, including back-to-back two-score performances in the first round and quarterfinals. The senior forward accounted for the Patriots’ lone point in the semifinals as well.
Cole Falk (Gates-Chili), Liam Furmansky (Canandaigua), William Hawken (Brockport) and Thuhtoo Lamin (Greece Arcadia) rounded out the Class AA All-Tournament team. Falk stopped five shots in the Spartans’ 5-0 win over Wilson Magnet. Furmansky lifted Canandaigua into the quarterfinals with an overtime game-winner against Brighton. Hawken scored both of his goals in the first round against Webster Thomas in the second half, including a golden goal in the second overtime.
LJ Gleason, Ali Shabani, Charlie Sorensen and Alfonso Vito led Aquinas to its first title in 17 years and landed spots on the Class A All-Tournament team in doing so. Vito connected on three goals, including two in the quarterfinals, and added an assist. Gleason amassed 18 stops and limited the Li’l Irish’s opponents to two goals in three contests. Shabani impacted the second half of both the semifinals and final with an assist in a 4-1 win over Wayne and goal in a 2-0 victory over Pittsford Sutherland.
Zachary Bennett, Santiago Castillo and Seth Rozen from finalist Pittsford Sutherland earned spots on the team. Bennett ignited a three-goal second-half with one of his own in the Knights’ 3-1 semifinals win over Honeoye Falls-Lima. The senior attacker added a helper in a 6-0 quarterfinals victory over Newark. Rozen hustled for 14 of his 17 sectional saves in the title game.

Honeoye Falls-Lima teammates Sawyer Ferraro and Brandon Pritchard both were named to the Class A All-Tournament team. Pritchard compiled two goals and a pair of assists in the Cougars’ 5-1 quarterfinals win over Palmyra-Macedon.
Nevin Crane and Jonah Schichtel from Wayne garnered spots as well. Crane’s golden goal lifted Wayne to a 1-0 quarterfinals victory over Greece Olympia.
Cameron Baker (Newark), Mitchell Hernick (Pittsford Mendon), Dylan Mattice (Greece Olympia) and Brennan Pipitone (Palmyra-Macedon) rounded out the Class A All-Tournament team. Baker led a defensive backline which shut out Eastridge, 4-0, in the first round. Mattice only needed three saves for a clean sheet in a 5-0 shutout of Midlakes/Red Jacket.
A quartet of Hornell Red Raiders headed up the Class B team. Jack Emo, Davin Oyer, Gennaro Picco and PJ Picco led Hornell to its second sectional title in three years. Emo displayed an offensive clinic in sectionals, exploding for 10 goals and one assist in four games. This included unloading all five points in the Red Raiders’ 5-0 first-round win over Waterloo, a hat trick in a 4-1 quarterfinals victory over Haverling and scoring both of Hornell’s second-half goals in a 3-2 semifinals win over Livonia. PJ Picco dished out four assists and stepped up with two second-half goals in the 3-1 championship victory over Bishop Kearney/Chesterton. The junior midfielder set up Gennaro Picco’s overtime game-winner in the semifinals as well. Oyer collected 16 saves in goal throughout the tournament.
Josh Baraka, Aidan Kharroubi and Oscar Sims represented B finalist Bishop Kearney/Chesterton on the All-Tournament team. Baraka and Sims both burst for five goals. Sims went off with four tallies in a 6-0 first-round win over Wellsville. Baraka spun a hat trick in a 3-1 quarterfinals victory over Wayland-Cohocton.
Mason Buckley and Jariel Ubiles helped top-seeded Mynderse to a semifinal and earned all-tournament honors. Ubiles guided the Blue Devils’ defense to a 3-0 shutout of Letchworth/Warsaw in the quarterfinals.
Brady O’Keefe and Nicholas Stetter led Livonia to the semifinals as well. The junior defender duo conducted the Bulldogs’ defense to allowing only one goal against North Rose-Wolcott and shutting out Le Roy. O’Keefe scored the lone goal against the Oatkan Knights in the second half as well.
Austin Durand (Haverling), Patrick Klump (Letchworth/Warsaw), Issac Mehlenbacher (Wayland-Cohocton) and James Western (Le Roy) rounded out the B team. Durand helped the Rams shut out Penn Yan, 1-0.
Brody Baubie, Braedyn Chambry, Jack Farner and Colin Martin helped Byron-Bergen/Elba to its second sectional championship in program history and ninth in Byron-Bergen history. Farner scorched eight goals in three matches: four in a 5-0 quarterfinals win over Holley, a hat trick in a 6-1 semifinals victory over Addison and the lone score in the final against East Rochester. Martin notched back-to-back two-score performances and assisted Farner’s championship goal. Chambry dished out a helper in the semifinals. Baubie led the Bees’ defense to a pair of shutouts and allowing one goal in three games.
Besi Hajdari, Jalen McCoy and Elijah Tanner all led East Rochester to the C1 final and earned spots on the team. The trio captained the offense in the quarterfinals with Hajdari and McCoy both scoring a goal and Tanner adding an assist in a 5-0 win over Sodus.
PJ Beth and Zane Wheeler helped Addison to the semifinals as well as Dominic Patti and Jack Ruter of Avon. Wheeler scored three of the Knights’ four goals, including two in their 3-0 quarterfinals win over Williamson. Patti tallied three goals and three assists, including scoring twice in a 7-0 first-round victory over Marcus Whitman. Ruter found the back of the net in the Braves’ 3-2 quarterfinals win over York/Pavilion.
Gauge Johnson (Sodus), Christopher Mosier (Holley), Keenan Murray (Williamson) and Kyan Tiede (York/Pavilion) completed the C1 All-Tournament Team. Johnson scored in each half of the Spartans’ 3-0 win over Red Creek. Mosier and Murray both netted a goal in their respective teams’ first-round victories. Tiede dominated with four goals and one assist in a 12-0 outburst over Bloomfield.
Cuba-Rushford/Hinsdale’s Robert Childs, Jacob Elliott, Tanner Lewis and Braeden Wight highlight the Class C2 All-Tournament team. Childs broke out with a hat trick in a 5-1 first-round win over Gananda and five assists across the Rebels’ four games. Lewis accounted for all the team’s offense in two sectional contests: the lone score in a 1-0 quarterfinals victory over Keshequa and both goals in the 2-1 championship win over Geneseo. Elliott netted the overtime game-winner in the Rebels’ 1-0 semifinals win over Bolivar-Richburg.
Samuel Chanler, Kellen O’Brien and Cooper Warner helped Geneseo to the C2 finals and landed spots on the All-Tournament Team. Chanler and Warner both scored a goal in the Blue Devils’ two sectional victories. Warner dished out a pair of assists as well in a 3-1 semifinals win over Kendall. Chanler was credited the helper for the Blue Devils’ lone goal in the title game.
Kendall’s Colby Hughes and Austin Werth along with Bolivar-Richburg’s Cayden Gaines and Reiss Gaines also were named to the C2 team. Werth spread out two assists in the Eagles’ 7-1 first-round win over South Seneca and docketed a hat trick in a 3-2 quarterfinals victory over Alfred-Almond. Reiss Gaines accounted for all four of the Wolverines’ tallies with three goals and an assist.
Tighe Grigg (Alfred-Almond), Ian Hinrich (Keshequa), Logan Karn (Caledonia-Mumford) and Jakeb Lederman (Dundee/Bradford) rounded out the C2 team. Grigg assisted both of the Eagles’ goals in a 2-1 win over Honeoye. Hinrich dominated Pembroke with two goals and a pair of assists in an 8-0 victory. Karn amassed seven saves in the Raiders’ 5-1 win over Perry.
Fillmore’s Nolan Krzeminski, Layton Sanasith, Henry Sardina and Zach Sisson topped the Class D All-Tournament team. Sanasith tore up sectionals for six goals and one assist in four games, including the overtime game-winner to win the championship over Naples. The senior forward kicked off the Eagles’ title run with four goals in their 13-0 first-round victory over Friendship/Scio. Sardina finished right behind Sanasith with five tallies and three dimes, highlighted by scoring twice in the opening round. Sisson scored twice in back-to-back games. Krzeminski guided the defense to a pair of shutouts and limiting their four opponents to two goals combined.
Jacob Betrus, Landon Gleichauf and Matthew Lincoln helped top-seeded Naples to the D finals and earned nods on the All-Tournament team. Lincoln topped off with four of the Big Green’s seven goals in three matches. Half of Lincoln’s tallies came in a 3-2 semifinals victory over Arkport-Canaseraga. Gleichauf had a goal and assist throughout the tournament.
Max Klemmer and Trevor Nasso of Northstar Christian and Zach Smith of Arkport-Canaseraga earned the postseason honor. Octavio Gefell (Charles G. Finney), Aidan Miller (Marion), Macoy Putnam (Avoca/Prattsburgh) and Aidan Stanley (Mount Morris) rounded out the D team. Gefell exploded for six goals and an assist in the Falcons’ 7-3 win over Andover-Whitesville/Jasper-Troupsburg. Miller racked up three dimes and a tally in a 5-2 victory over Houghton. Putnam scored the lone goal in the Titans’ win over Harley-Allendale-Columbia.
