A’s (1-7-1) 2
SAWX (6-1-2) 3 eight innings

Max Angle drew a bases-loaded hit by pitch to bring home the winning run as the Sawx rallied twice in the late innings to reach the 2023 Upstate Baseball Championship. Evan Cuba, who had been intentionally walked earlier in the inning, came home with the game winner. Trailing 2-1, Derrick Allen reached on an errant throw when he dropped a sacrifice bunt. Jace Crawford crossed home on the play to knot the score. Looking to set up the force at every bag, the A’s chose to put the next two batters on base.

Retired in order for the first five innings, the Sawx trailed 1-0 heading into the sixth when catcher Kaden Yapjoco reached on a bloop single that fell on the outfield grass behind first base. Josh Winter followed with a double into right center to tie the game. Sawx starter Joe Presutti struck out five without issuing a walk over six innings of work. The southpaw scattered four hits and his lone blemish on the scoreboard was of the unearned nature.

Weiss was also 2-for-2 including a double in the sixth to put runners on second and third with two outs for the A’s. Mickey Hummel also had a single in the game.
