Upstate Baseball League Thursday Wrap: Nick and Gordner lead Bombers in doubleheader sweep

BOMBERS (2-0) 2  (GAME 1/6 INNINGS)
Sam Nick went 2-for-2 with an RBI-triple in the fourth to lead the Bombers in their first win. Aidan Caselli plated Nick with an infield single in the fourth. Hudson Lazenby started and threw two hitless innings. Drew Boyzuck struck out one and retired all six batters he faced over two innings of work. Tyler Gordner struck out three and gave up one hit over the final two frames. Rowan Boyzuck, Gordner, Noah Gressell and George Wilmot each had a hit. For the Bucs, Christian Sciortino singled in the fifth while Chase Sullivan started and struck out one over three shutout innings. The game included a triple play. With runners on first and second and no outs in the top of the first inning, Nick backhanded a line drive in the hole between shortstop and third base for the first out. The Bombers’ shortstop wheeled and fired to Gressell covering the bag at second to get the runner before he was able to return to the base. Gressell turned and delivered a strike to Brody Swan at first for the third out of the play.

BUCS 6 (0-2) 6  (GAME 2/ 6 INNINGS)
Tyler Gordner went 3-for-3 with a double and a run scored in a five-run sixth to lead the Bombers. Trailing 6-2, Aidan Caselli started out the sixth with a double, followed by a single to right from Sam Nick. Hudson Lazenby plated Nick with an RBI-ground-out after Caselli scored on a wild pitch. Noah Gressell and Christopher Ahle each walked and eventually scored on wild pitches. Dwyer Boyzuck followed Gordner’s double to right with a first-pitch single, before Gordner scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch. Nick finished with two hits in the win. Rowan Boyzuck went 2-for-2 with an RBI-single in the fifth. Gressell earned the win with one strikeout and two hits allowed through the first two innings. Dwyer Boyzuck had a sacrifice fly in the fourth. Kieran Hayes struck out one and retired the final three batters in the sixth. Gerald Hitchcock singled and scored in the fifth.

For the Bucs, Brody Kwoka plated Kevin Schmitt and Fred Ferrer with a single in the second to open the scoring. Christian Sciortino went 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs scored. Ferrer struck out five and allowed three hits over the first three innings. Oscar Roger had a hit and scored Kwoka when he reached on a fielder’s choice in the fourth. Iwan Taylor-Casamayor and Nathan Scozzaro each had an RBI.
