Tyler Stack plated Jaden Madrid and Brody Froman with a walk-off single in the seventh to give Greece Post 468 (24-2-1) a 5-4 victory over Franklin Post 75 (25-2) to open day three of the American Legion Baseball Northeast Regional Tournament at Fitton Field in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts.
With one out in the frame, Madrid and Froman hit back-to-back singles before advancing to scoring position on a passed ball. Stack drove a 2-2 pitch to center field to bring in the winning runs.
Stack went 2-for-4 in the win and scored in the first and the third.
Jeffrey Broadnax went 2-for-3 and plated Madrid and Stack with a one-out single in the first to give the Cougars a 2-1 lead. Madrid was hit by a pitch to start the frame and Froman had a base hit to right field. Stack moved Madrid to the corner on a fielder’s choice before advancing to second on a defensive indifference.
Jack Cannon’s two-out single in the third got it within one run, 4-3. Stack led off the frame with a base hit to centerfield.
Zach Allen struck out four batters and allowed eight hits over a complete game on the mound.
Bryceton Berry and Froman each had two hits.
For Franklin Post, Brendan Sencaj plated Luke Sidwell with a two-out triple to open the scoring in the first. Dominic Caccavelli followed back-to-back singles from Eisig Chin and Ethan DePaolo in the second with an RBI-single to tie the game at 2-all. Christopher Goode scored Caccavelli on a fielder’s choice and Chin scored on the ensuing error in the frame.
Franklin Post has been eliminated from the double-elimination tournament.
Greece Post will play Trenton Acadians Post 207 (Ellsworth, Maine) in the American Legion Baseball Northeast Regional semifinals on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for approximately 12 p.m. at Fitton Field in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts.
