Jeffrey Broadnax delivered a go-ahead three-run home run in the fifth inning to catapult Greece Post 468 (23-2-1) to a 9-6 victory over host Shrewsbury Quaranta Post 397 on day two of the American Legion Baseball Northeast Regional Tournament at Fitton Field in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts.
Knotted at four, Brody Froman and Tyler Stack hit back-to-back singles before Broadnax sent a 2-2 over the left field fence. James Capellupo singled on the next at bat and Connor Gresens doubled one out later.
Stack finished 2-for-4 in the win with a two-out RBI-base hit to score Brody Froman in the sixth.
Gresens went 2-for-4 and plated Capellupo with a bunt-single in the first to make it 2-0.
Bryceton Berry drove home Kaleb Juliano with a two-out single in the fourth after Jack Cannon stole home one pitch earlier. Cannon scored once more when Berry reached on an error with two outs in the seventh to end the scoring.
Cannon finished with two hits and three stolen bases.
Froman went 3-for-4 and led off the fifth with a single to center field.
Jaden Madrid singled and stole home following a pickoff at first to open the scoring in the first.
Gage Wheaton struck out five batters and allowed one hit through 3.1 innings on the mound. Zach Allen retired the final four batters after allowing a triple in the sixth. The hurler had two strikeouts. Troy McPherson struck out one and gave up three hits through 2.1 innings of relief.
For Shrewsbury Post, Patrick McManus had a solo home run with two down in the second and an RBI-walk in the fourth to account for the team’s first runs. James Benestad went 2-for-4 with a two-run single to tie the game at 4-all in the fourth. James Mitchell went 2-for-3 with a two-run triple with two outs in the sixth.
Shrewsbury Post eliminated Greece last season in the Northeast Regional Tournament before going on to win the 2022 American Legion Baseball World Series.
Greece Post will play Franklin Post (Massachusetts) on Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 9:30 am at Fitton Field in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts.
