James Capellupo struck out 12 batters and allowed two hits over six-and-a-third shutout innings, and Jeffrey Broadnax drew a seven-pitch walk-off walk to lead Greece Post (19-1-1) to a 1-0 win over Brounshidle Post 205 (14-2) to open up the New York State American Legion Baseball Senior Championship Tournament on Tuesday at Mirabito Stadium in Binghamton, N.Y.
Capellupo struck out the side in the second and the fifth. The Hilton High School graduate retired seven in a row starting in the fourth and lasting into the sixth. He did not allow a runner to advance safely beyond second base. Zach Allen retired the final two in order. to pick up the win.

Joe Sanna doubled with one-out in the seventh to move Kaleb Juliano, who walked in the previous at-bat, to third. Jaden Madrid was intentionally walked to load the bases, and Broadnax worked a full-count free pass to bring in Juliano with the game winner.
Broadnax led off the bottom of the sixth with a single, and Brody Froman added a two-out base hit in the frame. Juliano and had a one-out single to right field in the fifth.
Greece Post holds a 1-0 record in pool play after going undefeated in last year’s tournament to claim District 7’s first state championship in 55 years. Last week, the Cougars claimed the District 7 title for a second-consecutive year with a 14-2 win over Ely Fagan Post 1151.
For District 8 champs Brounshidle Post 205, Tyler Swed went 2-for-3. The hurler struck out five and gave up three hits over six innings.
Earlier this year, Capellupo set the Section V record for shutouts in a season with six.
Greece Post will take on District 9 champs, The Orange County Outlaws Post 1167, on Wednesday for a spot in the single-elimination playoff tournament. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Mirabito Stadium in Binghamton, N.Y.
