Former Bonnie Osunniyi set to make NBA Summer League debut

Former St. Bonaventure University men’s basketball standout Osun Osunniyi is set to make his NBA Summer League debut with the Washington Wizards this weekend.

According to Iowa State athletics, Osunniyi recently signed on to join the Wizards at the NBA2k24 Summer League from this Saturday to July 17 in Las Vegas. Osunniyi is one of 11 players on Washington’s Summer League roster.

Osunniyi and the Wizards are scheduled to face the Indian Pacers at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Thomas & Mack Center (televised on ESPN 2), and the Boston Celtics at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Cox Pavilion (televised on NBA TV).

Other NBA Summer League matchups for the Wizards include:

— Tuesday at 10:30 p.m. against the San Antonio Spurs at the Thomas & Mack Center (televised on NBA TV)

— Friday, July 14 at 5 p.m. against the Oklahoma City Thunder at the Cox Pavilion (televised on ESPN U)

— A fifth game to be determined.

Osunniyi played four seasons with the Bonnies from 2018 to 2022. During his time at Bonaventure, Osunniyi averaged 9.9 points-per-game (PPG), 8.1 rebounds-per-game (RPG) and 30.1 minutes-per-game. He also tallied a total of 305 blocked shots and 69 steals in his career with the Bonnies.

Osunniyi’s accomplishments with the Bonnies include being a two-time Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year (2021 and 2022) and a four-time Atlantic 10 All-Defensive Team selection (2019-22), along with a nod on the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team in 2019.

In 2021, Osunniyi aided Bonaventure in capturing its second A-10 tournament title in the program’s history, punching its ticket for the NCAA Tournament in the process. During the A-10 tournament, Osunniyi received most outstanding player honors.

Osunniyi capped his college career with the Iowa State men’s basketball team during the 2022-23 season. In his lone season with the Cyclones, he averaged 8.2 PPG, 3.9 RPG and blocked 35 shots. Earning All-Big 12 honorable mention, Osunniyi helped Iowa State reach the NCAA Tournament for the second-straight year.

In his five seasons of college basketball, Osunniyi tallied over a 1,000 in points (1,372) and rebounds (1,027).
