On May 16th of this year the Honeoye Falls-Lima baseball team suffered a 5-0 defeat at the hands of the Irondequoit Eagles. It was the third straight setback for Dan Hoyt’s squad, a stretch in which the Cougars scored just one run over 21 innings of play. HF-L dropped to 9 wins and 9 losses on the season. Of the 18 games played, they had scored two or fewer runs in 10 of those contests including four shutouts. On Tuesday night, HF-L punched its ticket to the state quarterfinals with a sixth straight win. A streak in which the Cougars have averaged nearly nine runs per game. READ MORE.

CLASS B
PENN YAN (11-12) 3
PALMYRA-MACEDON (21-2) 5
Ian Goodness struck out 11 batters and allowed five hits and one walk over a complete game on the mound to help Palmyra-Macedon secure its second straight trip to the Class B Far West Regional. The senior went 2-for-3 with an RBI-single to cap a four-run bottom of the sixth. Tino LoPresto drove home Will Caffyn with a one-out base hit to center field in the frame. Caffyn bunted for a single, before Isiah Stephens and Brennan Pipitone scored on an ensuing error. Stephens went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, and Christian Morrison went 2-for-3. Brady Prebalick plated Pipitone with a two-out double in the first to open the scoring. For Penn Yan, Liam Chapman went 2-for-4 with a double, a triple and a run scored. Brady Emerson struck out nine and gave up eight hits through 5.2 innings. Riley Griffiths brought around Gavin Weston with a sacrifice fly in the seventh, and Chapman scored on an error to close the scoring. Reed Bouchard went 2-for-4. Michael Layton had a hit. Palmyra-Macedon will play the Depew Wildcats (VI/23-2) in the 2023 NYSPHSAA Class B Far West Regional on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at Grand Island High School.

NOTRE DAME-BATAVIA (22-1) 17

Ryan Fitzpatrick roped an RBI two-bagger in the top of the first, opening the floodgates for an eight-run inning as Notre Dame-Batavia took an early 8-0 lead and never looked back, clinching a spot in the Class C Far West Regional. Jaden Sherwood followed Fitzpatrick with a two-run single. Chase Antinore, Jordan Welker and Bryceton Berry all had RBI base knocks in the frame. READ MORE.

NORTHSTAR CHRISTIAN (16-3) 11
AVOCA-PRATTSBURGH (19-4) 6
Parker Seeley finished 3-for-3 with two doubles to lead the Northstar attack. Da’Vonn Stevens went 2-for-4 with a home run. Matt Allen, Micah Schwaderer and Tim Leary combined on the mound for the win. Northstar will play Section VI champion North Collins (13-6) in the NYS Class D Far West Regional. A 1 PM first pitch is scheduled Saturday at Dwyer Stadium.
