Toledo took an early lead with three runs in the third, but Rochester stormed back in the top of the fifth to tie the game when second baseman Darren Baker hit a two-out triple to bring Drew Millas and Richie Martin home. Center fielder Derek Hill then singled home Baker to tie the game, 3-3, extending his hit streak to 12 in the process.

The Red Wings took the lead in the next inning, again striking with two outs. With men at the corners, first baseman Travis Blankenhorn singled to right to bring in Carter Kieboom from third to put the Wings ahead, 4-3. Designated hitter Luis Torrens knocked in Nomar Mazara later in the inning to extend the lead to 5-3.

Toledo cut into the lead in the sixth on a Michael Papierski double to make it 5-4, but they’d never get another run across. Rochester added a final run in the seventh on a Nomar Mazara double – his third hit of the game – for the final 6-4 score.

On the mound, Paolo Espino moved to 3-1 on the season, striking out five in five innings while allowing four hits, including two earned runs. Jordan Weems earned his fifth save with 1.1 innings of perfect relief, striking out one.

Rochester returns home this week for a series with the thruway rival Syracuse Mets, beginning with a rare Monday 4:05 p.m. game. Right-hander Jose Urena is Rochester’s probable starting pitcher.

too bad they couldn’t have scheduled the game for 1pm so it wouldn’t conflict with the Amerks game. Amerks game had been scheduled at least a week or more ago so there would have been time. Its a beautiful day for a ballgame but the hockey game is pretty much a sellout. Will be interesting to see if the
wings can draw 4 or 5K at 4pm today.

Since the 1-8 start, the team has perked up a bit playing over .500 now. A .500 first half finish would be a worthy goal for these guys and starting all over might make it interesting for a few weeks?
