Monroe Community College Baseball took a five-run lead into the bottom of the sixth inning of Game 2, but a flurry of fielding miscues doomed the Black and Gold as the Tribunes dropped a pair to host SUNY Adirondack (1-6/7-8).
Patrick May (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) finished 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored while Avery Bowens (Rochester, N.Y./Eastridge) homered and drove in four to pace the MCC offense to a 7-2 lead.
Joe Grzeskowiak (Henrietta, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta) doubled and scored. Connor Kiefer (Buffalo, N.Y./City Honors) singled and crossed home as well. Lucas Brown (Toronto, ON/Humberside Collegiate Institute) went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored.
Monroe’s defense committed five errors and contributed to seven unearned runs in the loss. Ian McNabb (Webster, N.Y/Webster Thomas) and Patrick Sherron (Henrietta, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta) shouldered the brunt of the shoddy defensive effort. Both hurlers allowed three unearned runs in less than an inning of work.
Ryan Stewart (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn High) started and hurled five innings. The right-hander allowed two runs (one earned) on seven hits and one walk.
Dylan Wanat (Buffalo, N.Y./Williamsville North) walked twice and scored. Alex Simons (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) reached base three times with a single and two walks.
Wanat was 2-for-3 with a walk and a steal in the Game 1 loss. May singled and scored the lone Monroe run.
Bowens, Simons and CJ Phelps (Rochester, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit) collected a hit apiece in the opener.
Grzeskowiak walked and had an RBI. Brown and Connor Sackett (Rochester, N.Y./Fairport High) both worked a walk in the loss.
