CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. — The Finger Lakes Community College baseball team earned a pair of shutout victories in sweeping a doubleheader from Tompkins Cortland Community College Sunday afternoon at FLCC’s turf complex.
The Lakers (27-8, 14-0 Conference) blanked the Panthers (3-13, 3-9) 4-0 in the opener, and completed the sweep with a 7-0 shutout win in the nightcap. It’s the 10th time this year FLCC has swept a doubleheader.
Sophomore Devin Georgetti (Rochester, N.Y./Gates Chili) threw a seven-inning no-hitter with 11 strikeouts and no walks in Game 1, throwing 50 of his 71 pitches for strikes in a dominant outing. Georgetti’s no-hitter marks the first 7-inning, complete-game no-hitter since Tanner Cooper’s no-hitter against Westmoreland Community College in 2019.
The Lakers pushed across three runs in the bottom of the first, as freshman Paulie Goodness (Palmyra, N.Y./Palmyra-Macedon) had an RBI triple into right field, sophomore DJ Stoianovich (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) smashed an RBI double to left field, and freshman Alex Ahlstrom (Dunkirk, N.Y./Dunkirk) drove in a run on a sacrifice bunt.
The lead remained 3-0 until the bottom of the sixth when sophomore Tyler Cerame (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton) deposited an RBI double into left field to finish the scoring. Cerame finished 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, an RBI, and a run scored in the opener.
In Game 2, FLCC pounced for five runs in the bottom of the first inning, led by a bases-loaded walk from freshman Collin Clark (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) and a bases-clearing RBI single from sophomore Jorge Oropeza III (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Athena).
The Lakers tacked on two more runs in the fifth as sophomore Kenny Murphy (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) hit an RBI single to center field, and Clark followed with an RBI double to extend the lead to 7-0.
Sophomore Tanner Frank (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) earned the complete game win, allowing three hits with six strikeouts and two walks over seven shutout innings. Murphy went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI, Goodness was 2-for-4, and Clark drove in a pair of runs for FLCC.
The Lakers return to action Thursday afternoon, hosting Jamestown Community College in a doubleheader. The first pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
