WEBSTER, N.Y. — Jason Leonardo hurled four and two-third innings to pick up the win as host Webster Schroder (3-0) defeated Greece Athena (2-1), 6-2 in Section V Baseball action on Saturday.

Leonardo struck out three and allowed one run on five hits and a walk.

“I was just trying to let my defense make plays behind me, got a good defense behind me,” the senior right-hander said.

After allowing a run on a Sam Butera two-out double in the second inning, Leonardo retired eight of the next nine he faced.

“That was a hard-hit ball,” Leonardo said. “I kinda hung it there. I know that my guys are behind me. I know that I can pitch from behind sometimes. When people get on base, I just try not to worry about anything but the batter at the plate.”

Jack Cannon finished 2-for-4 with a double, triple and two runs scored to lead the Schroeder offense.

The Warriors staked Leonardo to an early lead.

Justin Maier and Aiden Julian connected on back-to-back singles to start the bottom of the first inning. The pair scored to give Schroeder a lead it did not surrender.

“They were just driving the ball gap-to-gap today,” Leonardo said of the run support. “Everyone top of the lineup to the bottom.”

Peyton Sanfilippo singled and drove in three runs.

Tyler Cannon was 2-for-2 with a walk. Zach Touloupas walked and scored a run. Matt Riddell added an RBI groundout.
