For the second straight game, the Red Wing’s offense was only able to muster three hits.

Rochester (0-3) dropped a 5-0 decision to thruway rival Syracuse Mets Tuesday evening.

Darren Baker paced the Wings’ offense with two hits in the lead-off spot. Yadiel Hernandez doubled in the first inning to put early pressure on the Mets but was left stranded.

Syracuse jumped out to an early lead with a Mark Vientos flyball double to centerfield that drove in Mets top prospect Brett Baty in the bottom of the first. The Mets didn’t add to their lead until the seventh inning when Rochester native and Monroe Community College product Danny Mendick doubled and drove in Carlos Cortes.

Syracuse added three more runs in the eighth inning. Ronny Mauricio tallied his first triple of the season, scoring Vientos, who led the inning off with a walk. Khalil Lee drove in Mauricio with a sac fly to extend the Met’s lead to four. Cortes picked himself up an RBI with a double that scored Lorenzo Cedrola who drew a four-pitch walk and stole second base.

The Red Wings used five pitchers in the defeat. None of the pitchers brought into Tuesday’s contest lasted more than two innings.

Rochester’s offense has struggled to hit the long ball to open up the season. The Red Wings have not homered through the first three games of the season, their longest streak since 2000.

The Wings are currently 5-for-19 with runners in scoring position during the three-game losing skid.

Rochester will look to pick up its first win of the 2023 campaign as they continue the series against Syracuse on Wednesday with a 1:05 p.m. first pitch.
